Just heard on the radio that Siptu have organised a march in Cork City today in support of the Vita Cortex workers.
Why have they organised it for today? While it will highlight the Vita Cortex situation, will it not cause a back up of traffic and cause disturbance for the ordinary people trying to get in and out of the city?
Would it not have being better to organise it on a weekday where it would have received more publicity?

It might but seeing as they cant track down a few hundred thousand euros belonging to the HSE I doubt it ;)

Thirty-two former workers were not paid redundancy when the foam manufacturing plant in Ballyphehane closed in mid-December and have been staging a sit-in protest at the facility ever since.

Bad form, workers are entitled to their redundancy
    They have my support
WORKERS OCCUPYING the Vita Cortex plant in Cork will receive their statutory redundancy next Monday, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said.

    So is it resolved?

Sir Alex Ferguson sends support to workers at Cork sit-in

Manchester United FC manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent a message of support to former Vita Cortex workers in Cork.

Some 32 former workers at the Cork plant are in the 60th day of a sit-in because of a row over redundancy payments.

The Irish State has stepped in to pay statutory entitlements, but the company has claimed inability to pay another 372,000 euros.

Former Vita Cortex lorry driver Jim Power, who spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson, described the phonecall as a "massive boost".

"He spoke about his involvment in an apprentice boys' strike in Glasgow in 1961 and told us to 'stick in there," he said.

"I'm a Manchester United supporter so I'm delighted but everyone here, even the Liverpool FC guys, are saying 'fair play'."

Up to 5,000 people attended a march in Cork organised in support of Vita Cortex workers over the weekend, in one of the biggest public demonstrations the city has seen in recent years.

That's a very blinkered view fella.....plenty of companies out there waiting to see if the company wins out.....then they can do the same. If the workers gets what's owed to them, other companies will hardly try the trick in the future.

Companies are already winning and will continue to do so. Their redundancy has been paid by the gov so VC have gotten away with it. As for the 0.9 weeks, well thats never going to happen.
