    Hi,
Just spent an hour trying to put an item for sale on Ebay for the first time. Also availing of the 'free insertion' weekend.
I opted for Paypal payment (have paypal account). At the end of the process it askes to add a credit card to my paypal account. I don't have a credit card and I cannot get past this to place my ad.

I'm fuming with the wasted time this morning.

I have had a paypal account for years and used it many time on Ebay to purchase. Why can I not put my item up for sale with out adding a credit card to my PAypal account?

    Appreciated any advice please.

They want a credit card on file to ensure payment of your final selling fees can be made. You will of course be of the opinion that your paypal balance will suffice and I'd agree with you but their angle is that you could withdraw the funds and skip town as such leaving them with no way to charge you. The card is basically a guarantee and they won't deviate from it.

Thank you pageant. I guess I won't be selling on ebay then. I will just continue buying only. All they would have to do to avoid losing business from none cc holders is to take their fees first from paypal before displaying the ads. Incidently do the other large operaters such as Amazon have the same rules or is there another similar company I could use as I want to advertise to all EU countries.

    Thanks again.

Most of them require ID adding in the form of drivers licence or passport number, 3V dont though.

    3V it is then.
    Thank you. Much appreciated.

Just an after thought before I get my 3v card.
If I puchase my card in the name of George Clooney for instance when Ebay use the details to allow my posting would it not create a problem?

Yes - your card details and ebay details ie, name and address need to match.
