I'm saving to buy a new car....my 10 year old polo has a great future behind it.
Question is, should I even bother trying to sell it?

    155,000 miles
1 dodgy CV joint - you can hear it grinding when you lock the wheel in a sharp turn
Broken (pretty much beyond economic repair) rear wiper
Was burning oil four weeks ago - garage fixed it for 'now'
Gear box sounds like an old twin tub when it's in neutral
I've had it 3.5 years and I honestly don't know how many previous owners it had (I know who I bought it from!)
    NCT'd up to Jan 2013
Interior is fairly manky - driver's seat is torn

This post is not an ad - it'll be another 4 or 5 months before I have enough cash to get a new car - I suppose I'm wondering if anyone has seen cars like mine for sale - I mean the thing could run for another year or it might just die tomorrow....so, scrap yard or buyandsell?

Clean it and polish it and take some photos of it.

I'd stick it up for €500 and take whatever offer comes your way.

make sure to use phrases like "driving purfecked", "one lady owner", "80mpg", "great learners car", "too good to scrap", "future classic", "genuine reason for sale" etc etc. for extra effectiveness*

*or just write an ad and tell it good and negative points

If it's a 1 litre with power steering (PAS) you could get 400 handy enough.

there will be young bucks looking for a field car somewhere :P if your stuck stick in the dealer or on donedeal you will get something more than scrap value

Don't forget you're in Ireland. This entitles you to stick about two grand on top of the realistic open market selling price!

It is NCT'd to Jan 2013 and a CV joint is no big job, you should diffently get more than scrap value for it!

And if you say priest's car, you can then claim divine power steering.....

    999cc...yeah.
Can't sell it yet. Need to get to work and back while I'm saving for a new one - June/July.
I will pm you then! I hear it's pretty hard to sell 2nd hand cars these days.

Wonderful stuff. I actually really like those cars and another one would be nice. I'm on my third one so far! But it's cool because I use the old ones for spares. If you remember that'd be really cool.

I sold a 99 one with 2 years test before xmas for just under a grand..

My neighbour who no longer drives has one he bought new, 16.000 miles, and refuses to sell, despite my offers to buy, it would make a nice little runabout.

Hi all, have a 2003 95 Aero sitting in my drive. There's a pretty bad oil leak and I've been told it will cost around €1500 to fix. Don't have the €€€ to fix and even if I did I'm not sure it would be worth it financially.
About 80,000 miles on the clock, beautiful black leather interior, heated front seats, haven't nct'd it...
