I'm not the best at figures but I've got so far now need some help boards

    Situation 2 adults 2 children

One adult earning 314.25 gross less the usual for means testing. = €17.04

So if you calculate the max for 2 adults 2 children = €371.60 (personnel rate adult independent 2 children's )

So what do i do now with the adult working to calculate daily means

Minus €60and is it then 60% of the diffenrence the means
I'm soooooooooo confused any help pretty please young accountants wizards of making out the welfare.ie site cause I'm flumocked!

My calculations are are follows.... 314.25 - 17.00 (which I presume is prsi etc) - €60 = 237.25 ...60% of that is €142.35. The rate you have on jsa ...personal allowance ada and cdax2 = 371.60 - €142.35 (means from spouses employment) = €229.25 payment.
Maybe someone who is more up to speed with means for jsa can confirm or correct.

Do you get to include the spouse in the JSA calc as they are working?

ie the total that is available is 372 (family with 2 kids) or 188 plus a half for each child =218

Yes for jsa adult dependant and full child dependant rates are applied as it is a means tested payment. Obviously if OH was on jsa and claiming cda as well then you would apply half rate for each child to each claim and there would a max pay situation also.

Just to confuse things more, sorry....

If the working adult is working more than 19 hours, then it is sometimes more advantageous for the working adult to claim Family Income Supplement and the non-working adult to claim Jobseekers as well (provided of course that they are available for and looking for full-time work).

In those circumstances, the means test is worked out differently for Jobseekers Allowance (the means are halved and the person can only claim half rate for the children, which is perhaps what you are referring to MP22). In the above circumstances it would work like this:

    - Gross Income from Employment minus deductables = 297.21

Half means test as worked out by eastbono above = 118.62 deducted from Jobseekers claim

This would be deducted from 217.80 (as worked out above by mp22)

Leaving a Jobseekers payment for the Jobseeker of 99.18

    With income from employment 297.21
    Income from Jobseekers 99.18
    Total Family Income 396.39

Family Income Supplement income limit for 2 children = 602 Euro.
They pay 60% of the difference between your family income and this limit

Difference between FIS limit and income 602-393.39 = 205.61
    60% of 205.61 = 123 Euro (rounded off)

This would mean instead of getting a simple Jobseekers payment of 229.25 Euro, you could be entitled to a combined Jobseekers and FIS payment of 222.18 (123 + 99.18)

So, you can see that claiming one simple Jobseekers payment in the above circumstances results in about 7 Euros more than claiming FIS and Jobseekers together. However, this varies depending on how many kids a person has and how much they're earning. People should always check to see which is more beneficial.

Also, are there any secondary benefits to be taken into consideration? Does the OP get a rent or mortgage supplement or are they renting from the council? If so, then this will have to be calcuated separately to see how they are affected.
