    Hi all,

I'm looking at the 4 door type as it's cheaper than the 5door. 2006/2007

I'd say it very reliable as its Honda, but what would the mpg be, i do mostly city driving with a weekly spin across and back the m50.

    Total miles per week 160.

I was looking for a diesel but for a good one they are really starting to go for crazy money 10k+ or else there's the ones with HUGE 130/140K miles on them which still go for 6/7K, yes the engine is ok for another 100k but what about the rest of the car, clutch, gearbox, bushings, turbo, etc...

To me honda is a good/safe bet.

    Pls help.

    hey man
ive been driving the 1.4 petrol model for few years and from my experience and many others ive spoke too who drive the 1.8+ diesels shes a winner.

the bigger engine diesels suit the weight of the car way more than the underdog 1.4 for general all round driving.

    The pros

The interior and exterior look really exciting and stand outs compared to many cars even the 2012 new model civic looks less sporty side by side.

My 2006 one has only ever had one recent fault with the windscreen motor
and the mileage is still top notch for a petrol (gets about 6.7L/100km) ive
heard the diesels manage great mileage

great all rounder space wise, lots of storage

handles like a dream, has a glued to the road feel on bends, roundabouts

the controls and dashboard design flow really good and look sexy as feck, the big red engine start button always puts a smile on my face lol

in the safety side shes built like a tank, another owner told me how a transit went head first into his drivers side at just over 100kph and he came off with very minor injuries

    The cons

common faults tend to be clutch related and windscreen area noises, but like every car you'll either get up with a nonstop fault machine or a smooth sailor.

alot of people dont like the rear spoiler i find it helps block headlights and you still see everything you need to see, the visiblity from rear area is generally a bit poor but the gigantic wing mirrors more then help, feck it coupes have worse rear visiblity

some people dont like the stiff suspension, its really not a deal breaker and never bothered me

with a bit of luck you should find a 07 around 8k price with about 70k mileage

    hope that helped!

The 1.8 litre is pretty good on fuel for it's size, pokey enough too having 140bhp. The saloon was also available as a Hybrid called the IMA if you want similar figures to diesel.

The 1.8 engine was a brand new design SOHC engine with timing chain producing 140bhp i-vtec and was designed for fuel efficiency. i have owned mine 6 years, i have had at 6000k various suspension problems shock failures loose bump stops fixed under warranty. I can tell you i like the shape of the car great engine and 6 speed box. the car is very easy to service at 20000k intervals. The fold up and fold flat rear seats are a great job. brake pads are like choclate and after the second set i got sick of replacing the back at 15000 so put in some EBC green stuff pads and discs and it makes a mighty job of it. the tyres are bridgestone turanza er300 i got 30000 miles out of the front originals and 30000 out of the next front set and 60000 miles out of the back. I have just replaced the original battery and the drive belt after 6 years. On saturday i am going to replace worn shocks, bump stops, top mounts, drop links and anti roll bar bushes. I have had 4 windscreens in the car in 6 years so make sure you have windscreen cover there a big screen and tend to crack easy with stone chips. The dash screen can have quiet a glare of it when the sun hits it. Also there is no spare wheel just a stupid repair kit so i got a spare wheel kit for 90 euros. I have been lucky in the fact i have not had the amount of problems other 8th generation civic owners have had. And the honda dealer was a nightmare i had a job to get him to do the warranty fixes and the honda recalls. Its the sort of car you either hate it or love it.

The hatchback has a few problems that owners were affected with, but most are actually fine. The saloon was made in Japan, and is more reliable.
