Reception Entrance Song - How long?

    Lo all,

6 weeks to the big day, and met with the operations manager of our reception venue - one of the things he asked us was what music we wanted played when we entered for the dinner.

It hadn't occurred to us to have a song for this, so we've spent the whole night bouncing ideas off each other (She vetoed the A-team theme...), but the one thing we're not sure about is how long we need to go for here - don;t really want to pick a 3 minute song and then spend the latter 2 minutes sitting there feeling awkward.

It's only the 2 of us coming in to music, by the by, as we have a large wedding party and are spreading them across the tables to act as icebreakers and handle fallout if anything goes wrong.

    Thanks in advance for help!

Doing this for years. It doesn't matter how long the song is, whoever is playing it can turn it down as soon as you're sat down.

Al green : let's stick together.

When I'm playing piano at meals, My Baby Just Cares For My by Nina Simone is always a winner!

I want to use "you're not the boss of me now" ("they might be giants" I think) from Malcom and the middle but himself says only I would find that funny! :)

A wedding I was at last year had LMFAO -Party Rock Anthem as their entrance song. The DJ announced the groomsmen / bridesmaid a pair at a time and they each had their own "shuffle" followed finally by the groom and bride doing their shuffle!

Something completely different but went down a storm with the guests :D

We walked in to the Jam A town Called Mailce - Picked because of the pulsating bass line & the opening lines

Better stop dreaming of the quiet life
Cos it's the one we'll never know

Well, you don't have to have one just because he suggested it, you know. If you weren't thinking of having one, maybe you should not have one.

But if, now that the idea has come up, you like it, then your concerns about length are well-placed. It will be awkward for everyone and embarrassing for you if the music goes on longer than the action it is intended to call attention to.

Which means that you need something whose signficance is immediately obvious, not something with a long first verse building up to a chorus, when it's really the chorus you want. If there's a particular song you want, then consider starting it on the chorus, not on the intro. And consider an instrumental rather than a vocal piece - they're much easier to fade gracefully as soon as you get to the table.

Yikes, lot of responses - and some great song ideas in there (we thought ot superman as well fiestywonder, but thought it'd be a bit too much - delighted it worked for you). We've actually picked a track that suits us down to the ground (not going to say here as there's at least one of our wedding party a boardsie, and we're trying to keep our music choices for things on the QT). Just need to try and gauge how much of it/what part to use. Will probably try and grab a mostly instrumental piece of it to work the fade better.

    Thanks for all the help!
