Coolant temp. gauge 2004 Celica

Can anyone out there answer this for me? (Celica owners?)

I just bought a 2004 Toyota Celica. The needle on the temp gauge seems to be high. Maybe it's just because i'm used to analogue gauges (there's a digital gauge on the Celica) but the needle is only two increments from the highest temp. , technically it's still in the centre of the gauge but I think it should be at increment 3 and not increment 4.
It starts at the bottom of the gauge from cold but moves up to position 4 after 10 mins of easy driving (I'm afraid to put the foot down).
I drew this crude diagram to clarify, colours are different on the actual gauge but the yellow line (position 4) is where the needle stays at after 10 mins.
Is this normal or could this be a sign that the engine is overheating?

Some cars thermostats are set to show either 1 of 3 things: warm, cold or overheating. I'd imagine a celica wouldn't be in this bracket. I'd be worried if the gauge wasn't working. Fluctuation of the needle would show it's OK.

Does the fan switch on? Personally I'd only worry if it started to climb and kept going. If it's maintaining a position on the gauge that'd suggest it's stable. It could be just the way these show normal temp. when warm but check your coolant levels to be safe.

Varies massively from car to car as to what is considered normal on the temp gauge.

On the VW I have now it's dead centre. On the Nissan I had before that it was just above half way etc etc. If you have a manual for the car might be an idea to have a look at that.

Always addressed any concerns I had that way from car to car.

That looks ok to me, but perhaps consult your manual to be sure.
