The wife had one for 2 years. The 1.6fsi is a terrible engine in the passat. Extremely underpowered and very heavy on fuel as a result.

The engine was discontinued in the passat after 07 I think.

When you can get the likes of a Vectra 1.6, a year newer, for a grand less, that Passat looks well over priced.

Yeah but then youd be driving a vectra.

Not that I like Passats but those horrible square Opels from that generation are the bottom of my list.

May be the bottom of your list ( you're neglecting to mention any Asian or French stuff) but in every way as good, if not better car than the VW.

I honestly couldnt care less if a car could guarentee me that it will never have a problem with anything, if it's a horrible place to be, I wont be in it.

As for the other bits, all my French cars have been reliable. Plus they are comfortable , so I'm happy.

My cousin has an 05 Vectra and I've had the misfortune to have to spend time in it pulling the dash apart to fix various bits of the heating system in the last few months. IT's not somethign I could ever see myself driving. The Zafiras I've had as hire cars were a pain too. Coming from my Xantia's and the missus Scenic, I had a sore back after about 40 mins on the motorway.
