    Hi all,

I'm looking at buying my first second hand car and decided to go for a volkswagen polo. My price range is roughly 3-4K. I have read the guide to buying used cars. I'm just not too sure what is a fair price for a used polo so I was looking for any advice if possible. I was thinking of looking at this one but is this a fair price?

    Thanks,

That's a 55hp model. Which is quite slow. It doesnt scream value to me.

    Just for comparison

Same car essentially, half the price.

    Hi Colm

The only thing that strikes me about the seat is that it doesn't show what it's mileage is. What in your opinion would be a fair price to offer for the polo?

    Thanks,

    Dubh

I wouldn't buy a polo, they're the darling of low level civil servants whose parents drive passats, I always found them a hateful little thing with their faux mercedes headlights and hard seats.
Although I suggested that Ibiza, they share a horrid 3 cylinder engine and 4k is a lot of money for an 8 year old small car unless it's über reliable, or enjoyable, the polo is neither.

If you want to go for a Polo I'd recommend a SEAT Ibiza, same car but cheaper and with a better spec.

With the Polo you're paying for the VW on the grill instead of an S. ;)

    Hi colm and mad muffin,

Thanks. To be honest, I was just adamant I wasn't getting a micra as my first car so a polo seemed a better option than that or a peugeot. I'd also heard that volkswagens are very reliable cars. Would the SEAT be know as a reliable car?

    Thanks again,

    Dubh

I dont think either of them will be more reliable than any other small car, the Toyota yaris or Honda jazz are the class leaders in that respect.

The Ibiza and polo would be identical reliability wise.

I'd be looking at something like a Fiesta, my sister has one similar to below for 2 years and not a bother out of it other than having to change a headlight bulb. Better car imo than the Polo and better value too.
