DOSBox Issue

    Hey guys!

I'm completely new to this setting up emulation things. I just downloaded DOSBox to my uncle's computer coz he wants to play a Windows '95 game (Transport Tycoon - Deluxe). I have the folders and commands and all set up to find it (I think), but when I tell it to run it, it comes back with:

    C:\TRANSP~1>classic.exe
    This program requires Microsoft Windows.

I'm confused. Is the whole thing not running in Windows? Any instructions on how to just get it going so my uncle can play the game?

Many thanks for any help provided! :)

Sounds like Windows is a requirement, which I guess means you'll have to abandon DOSBox and see if there's a patch that will run it on modern systems.

You could always build a virtual machine to run the game. I've done that in the past.

DOSBox is a DOS emulator, it doesn't emulate Windows. So when you try and start the game Transport Tycoon thinks it is running on a machine that only has DOS installed, not Windows 95, and complains that there is no installation of Windows.

You could try just running the game on what ever version of Windows you have without using an emulator. You might need to mess around with compatibility settings or if you are running Windows 7 you might need the Windows XP compatibility mode (which as far as I know is a version of XP running on a VirtualPC emulator)

When I try running it in Windows, it says it requires MS-Dos, so I got DOSBox thinking that vowuld solve it, but no :P Thanks for all the tips guys! I tried SirLemonhead's solution and it's all up and running now, so my uncle is happy out! :D Thanks everyone!

It's worth the hassle for some games though!

There's a philosophy that'll fly around here. A lot of what happens these parts is getting old stuff to work for little reason other than to be able to say you've played it, don't happen to like it and frankly, it was overrated to begin with.

Why, so we can play Black Ops all day? :P

Seriously though, retro gaming has a lot of horrifically bad games, & yet, a lot of utterly unforgettably brilliant ones too...even today.

    GTFO

But seriously Dos box is not difficult to set up at all. A frontend makes it even easier...and Z was better on PC ;)
