iPhone 3G problem

How's it going lads, I just bought a second hand iPhone 3g having never owned an ipod or iphone before (Yes I know...). When I downloaded iTunes and went to update the iPhone it gave me an error (error 1015) when I tried to restore. I asked one of my mates and he said this is because the previous owner had jailbroken the iPhone. To be honest I haven't a breeze what I'm doing trying to unjailbreak it. I've read the stickied FAQ thread but can't find what I'm looking for. I don't want it jailbroken, I'll pay for apps but I can't seem to get it working.

I've downloaded redsn0w or something and tried following some youtube video but couldn't get it to work. Can anyway help a man out? Otherwise its money down the drain

You're a gent, Ive managed to finally get it sorted after watching a stupidly long tutorial. Walked me through step by step, cheers again anyway.

Mods can lock this now if they want.
