I've recently changed from oil to gas. Have the oil tank still sitting in garden and want to get rid of it,but there's about 100 or so litres of oil left in it. how do I get rid of it? i can easily cut the tank up and take down to recycle depot, but how do I get rid of the oil? I considered pouring it down the sewerage, but really don't want to do that, not very enviro friendly!!

Was thinking of changing to gas too. Is it an expensive process ?
I have an old house and leaks that I can't find. Probably only 8 of my 12 radiators working. Wasting money on oil so. How long did the work take ?
Did you have to replace the radiators or what does the process entail ?

Is it kerosene or diesel? You can sell the oil either way. Why would you want to cut up a good tank  why not sell it and get €150 for it?

stick it on adverts the oil is worth about €90 and a good green plastic tank about €100 so say €175 for the lot even if you only get €50 it's win win :)

Mate of a mate did a nixer. About 2300 for a standard 3 bed semi. Didn't touch the rads,as we're going to be doing up a few rooms,so will do any that need doing as we go. Didn't bother with all that power flushing crap they tell you about, just sales bs if you ask me. Job done in a day, that included taking old oil boiler etc out of shed, blocking pipes off where they entered house, installing new Ideal Logic boiler in attic(not converted),new controls, new pre insulated hot water cylinder, connecting to meter, etc.

That would be nice, but to be honest,if someone just came and took it,I would be happy. If they left a bottle of whisky,or some wine...

Do not put it down the drain.

Not sure where to look but at the price of heating oil now someone will be more than happy to take it off your hands.

recycle centre will not take your cut up oil tank, as it's impregnated with fuel.

One customer cut theirs in half and used as a large planter in the garden, cute idea

Remember, when a tank is empty it's more dangerous as can be filled with vapor that can easily be
ignited so treat with caution, especially if you plan to use power tools to cut up, would require gas freeing (with air compressor?)

If you poured 100lts of fuel down your drain, it would do a lot of damage, would be traceable to source and you would be liable for any damage and cleanup costs

I don't know why I mentioned it going down the drain,I'm very green minded, and it's the last thing I'd do.
I asked the lad at the centre, and he said they'd take it(for 2 bin tags),reason for cutting up is ease of moving, and to fit in car.
    Thanks for advice.

At this stage I have someone to collect it,will keep you updated if there's any change.

    Thanks all.

Strange, as it's considered toxic waste material, don't know what they intend to do with it, hope it doesnt end up in playground rubber!!
