    Right lads,

Having a small issue with my PC that is driving me crazy. I've posted here on Boards with a few issues before and always get a decent response.

I have a new PC about 3/4 weeks. Bought it pre-built from a store , because I like having a warranty. And I don't have much interest in self-building.

But since I booted up my PC yesterday evening, there is a really subtle buzzing/humming noising coming from inside the PC.

It's very subtle but if anyone else is like me, it would drive them crazy.
Instantly I thought it was a rattling harddrive, maybe a screw or two is loose. But i've tried variations of screw tightness and nothing. Booted from a live usb and the noise is still present, so can't be the hard drive.

Then I thought CPU fan, but when the fan goes off, the noise is still there. I've turned the PC off and twisted the CPU fan and it makes an odd noise, but I think that's a whole different problem, as the noise exists even when the fan is off.

Any ideas how I could trouble shoot this. It's definitely not the PSU. And I've opened the case and basically stuck my head in listening, it sounds like a noisey hard drive, but it isn't coming from that area of the machine. Honestly stumped lads.

Any suggestions on ways to figure this one out? Because I work on the PC and it is driving me crazy.:mad:

    The specs are:
    Intel core i7 2600
    8gb DDR3 Ram
    Amd Radeon HD 6670

It's a long shot that anyone will have any ideas, but may as well see...

Also thought it may be the vibration of the machine on the wooden surface, but i've put something soft under it and it's still buzzing away

How do you know its not the PSU?

Because when I stick my ear up to the PSU all you hear is air moving. PSU is almost silent, which is a relief because I've had PSU issues before.

Don't want to be a smartarse but you bought a pre-built PC because you wanted a warranty, well why don't you brink it back to the store and get them to check it out and use the warranty!

    At 10 oclock at night??

Thought Id ask you guys, because I've have helpful advice on here before and if I could troubleshoot it (which I should be able to) before tomorrow, then maybe I'd save myself the effort of lugging a desktop PC to the shop... As I don't drive.

If I can't troubleshoot the problem tonight, then I'll head up tomorrow.

Got it sorted. Last night the PSU started making a sound like a chainsaw. really frightening. So I brought it back and was handed a new PC no questions asked.

is there a disc in the dvd drive?

Ha no there was no disk. It was just faulty. Not sure why. I should post the video I took of the machine making the last sound it made before I panicked and shut it down. Sounded like a chainsaw or something.

Got a new PC without a problem. But even now the hard drive clicks a little bit. Usually that's a sign of a problem, but well see.

I'm very finicky when it comes to my PC. I work on the computer, so I like it quiet and working properly. I have the opinion that if I pay with my own hard earned cash, it should work perfectly.
