We got a renewal form here for one of the vans. We were shocked to see it has a renewal pin for online renewal.

Is this a new thing? Never got one before with a pin!

Requires a CRW to tax (don't get me started on CRW's :pac:) tis different than taxing privately... Hence why I'm puzzled, they always ask for one when taxing!

It is strange alright. I got one at the beginning of the year for our VW Transporter as well. It was very handy I must say. Maybe they have finally started to make use of their computer systems and allocate a pin number for vehicles that have a valid CRW when they send out the letters.

If you've presented the RF111 form or similar proof of commercial usage in the past when taxing, then from now on you can tax online. It is a new thing that came into effect on Jan 1st to bring the commercial tax in line with private. It also means that companies trying to tax a fleet at the same time will no longer be hampered with the 5 vehicle at a time limit that used to be imposed on them.

Personally I think its about time and it saves the time/money/hassle of going to the tax office, joining a Q and all the rest.

They kept that change quiet enough anyway! Pity they havn't gone the whole way and eliminated having to get the CRW from tax offices. They should be issued from the VTN centres like the NCT certificate.

    From Motor tax.
Owners of commercial vehicles may now renew their tax online, provided they have a current certificate of roadworthiness (valid from the beginning of the new licensing (taxing) period), and in the case of light goods vehicles (vehicles whose design gross vehicle weight is under 3,500 kg) the owner must have submitted form RF111A (declaration that the vehicle will only be used as a goods carrying vehicle in the course of the owners business) to the local motor tax office. Form RF111A is available on our homepage under the link, Motor Tax Forms. Where the requirements set out above are not met, vehicle owners will not receive a pin to renew their tax online, and must renew at the local motor tax office.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

They sure kept it quiet... I'm wondering if this means now can you tax without a CRW? Seems silly if you can...

People complaining about the NCT don't know the half of it :pac:

Good question actually - never thought of that and not due a renewal notice for another few months.

Only speculating, but maybe it'll be the same as insurance details in that you simply enter the document number in a relevant section.

    Time will tell I guess.

we got a pin on the renewal for our 206car van before xmas. the test was out and wouldnt let me renew it online. i think it only works if you tax the van with test remaining, for example your tax expires at the end of febuary and your crw expires in june. you can tax it online for 3 months

It says it in the above quote from the motor tax website. As long as the CRW is valid at the start of the taxing period you can tax away. I taxed the Transporter for the full year even though the CRW expires in April.

ours was valid from when it was due to be taxed 1/12/11 but they wouldnt let me tax it. test was out around the 16/12/11

I'd say it's the same as before for the CRW, if it's valid for the full month of the taxing you can get 12 months tax, at the moment.

There was a thread a while ago showing all the changes they're probably going to bring in for commercials.
The RSA is seeking the views of commercial vehicle owners about a wide ranging set of proposals aiming to radically overhaul the commercial vehicle testing regime in Ireland

A 56 page document, with a response date deadline this Friday 4th Nov.
