    Hi guys,

Sent away the a12 form in early December just gone which sorted the tax on my wages for January. I get paid monthly and was being emergency taxed for 3 months.

I thought I'd just get my tax back with my January paycheck but I didn't.

I went up to the revenue office and the lady said it was too late in the year to have it refunded. She said to get my p60 from my employer and bring it back up. I haven't got the p60 yet but I was promised it soon, I am wondering will I get all the emergency tax that I am owed back from the last tax year? I heard somewhere you can claim emergency tax back for up to 4 years now. Obviously once you have the p60 etc.

if you had the tax situ sorted before your last pay of 2011, you would have received back any tax due at that point. Once the year rolls into 2012, you claim it back through submitting your P60. Your employer will issue this to you soon - they have until 15th Feb to submit the info to Revenue. Can't say if you'll get back all the emergency tax money, it would depend on whether you had other jobs in 2011 and if you had used up your allocation of credits/cutoffs. If you had no other jobs in 2011, you'll probably get it all back.

Cheers for the reply, had no other jobs in 2011 but this one.... I actually had my tax sorted for the 15th December so I though I'd get it back in my January paycheck but I didn't. I said this to my employer and he found it very odd and told me to go to the revenue, when I went there she said that the only thing that probably happened was that it wasn't sorted in time with your employer for the end of the year which is why you didn't get it refunded. She then said to get my p60 and come back with it. However I wasn't sure if I'd get all my emergency tax back, I am owed a good bit, was being emergency taxed for 3 months. Didn't notice the first month, second month tried to sort it with my employer he said he would ring the head office and third month when it wasn't sorted I said feck it and sent off the a12 form, pity that it was in December though. Hope I'll get it back, I am owed a fair amount. Wish I was getting paid weekly this all would have been sorted a good while ago.

Revenue stop issuing tax credit certs around the second week of December each year as its normally too late for employers to implement the changes. This is what seems to have happened in your case.

If this was your only employment in 2011 and you did not earn over 16500 euro, you should get all of your tax back. This is based on having the personal tax credit of 1650 Euro and paye credit of 1650 euro. You multiply your combined credits by 5 to give you the amount you can earn tax free in any one year.

Quickest way to get a refund is to do it online. Use Revenues free online service. The links below will assist you.

Thanks for the reply, did not earn over what you stated and it was my only job in 2011 so looks like I'll be ok, thanks again!
