Question about online hotel booking

Hi, I'm going on holiday this summer with some friends. It's the first time any of us have gone on holiday alone, so I'm a bit clueless about booking online. If the hotel is booked with a credit card, would the same card then need to be used to pay the balance on arrival? Also, has anyone ever used budgetplaces.com for booking, and if so, are they trustworthy? Thanks.

If you mean booking hotel direct useing your cc for holding a reservation then yes you will need to have that cc when checking in. Remember that if a cc is used to hold a reservation and you are unable to go you must cancel your reservation othewise your cc will be charged for part of the stay.
Never used budgetplaces.com so cant comment on them.
Hope you have a great holiday ;)

Also be careful booking hotel for everyone if its all lads holiday as the card used for booking will most likely be charged for any damages. Work out who's sgharing with who and let them book their room with their own card.

That's great, thanks! :) It's not a lads holiday at all, just a small group of girls going for a quiet break so hopefully there won't be any damages!

When you book online, you provide the merchant with a credit card number to guarantee the booking and possibly pay part of the price. Once you arrive at the hotel, you pay the balance to the hotel. You are paying two different institutions. I have never, ever in my life had them insist on using the same credit card. Why would they? All they want is to get paid. What card you use does not matter.

Edit: Several times, I just paid the balance in cash. That is also absolutely fine with the hotels (if not even preferred as it saves them fees). The story with car rentals is completely different. There, you must have a card in the driver's name. But for hotels, there are no extra requirements.

Read the T+Cs of the site you're booking on. Some may require that you use the same credit card, some may not.
