Ok, I said I was going to try and set up some resource for arcade artwork a long time ago. I got around to setting up the basics of it the other day.

Its still in the very early stages and I know there are other sources for artwork but I hope to make this the easiest and hopefully biggest over time.
I'm working out the best way to share vector art and other non standard web formats at the moment as well as improve other parts of the site.

There's also console artwork and stuff like as well.

You can sign up and upload your own artwork if anyone feels like sharing what they have.

    http://www.arcadeartwork.org/

The website looks very simple and basic and that's the whole idea. The focus is on the artwork and getting to it.

Looks very nice Steve, just registered. Is there any procedure for uploading pics? Do we need to resize or anything? My camera is fairly crap and takes pics in a 3648x2736px resolution.
Can we delete a pic we upload in case it's crap?

No need to resize anything. But the biggest upload allowed at the moment is 20MB per image(larger via ftp but thats not enabled for everyone yet).

I'm working on allowing people to remove and edit their uploads and it should be running later tonight.

Cool stuff. My pics would be 5MB max I think. Only reason I asked about deleting was in case a pic I upload looked crap compared to others.

Actually its live now. If you view a picture you've uploaded you can edit the details or delete it.

Just click on the image, the lightbox will pop up, then click the image name at the bottom middle of the lightbox to open up the normal page.
You should see an "edit" option on the right hand side of the screen. You can edit or delete the picture here.

    It's a cool idea :)
Always thought it would be nice to archive gaming magazines.

Just under 10,000 images up there now and a large selection of them are in very high resolution.

Just the start, lots more stuff to upload including some serious arcade artwork once I sort out a good system to view the preview in say .jpg and then download the source vector/ai/eps file.

I dont really have a lot of SF2 artwork.
Here's a rar file with what I have at the moment. It's mostly high resolution jpg's and some vectors of the Street Fighter 2 name and logo. No decent side art unfortunately

its hard to find decent artwork for control panels and sideart just on the web. I cant find any at all. im looking to redo the images on that cab and was hoping to get something to cover up the entire side as some of it is a bit chipped, but cant find anything to do it thats big enough!

You could always create some and use that. Or are you only looking for original and not custom artwork?

Im thinking about creating something yeh, but i wouldnt be able to draw anything myself to be honest, im handy enough with photoshop though when it comes to meshing different images together, but in order to do that i need to have fairly large images of characters to begin with and again i cant find them anywhere either!

A lot of links seem to point to a website that used to have a lot of arcade artwork on it but has been gone a long time, all the links to this paticular site are broken now.

Yeah it's a pain alright. You could always look for artwork thats not just Street Fighter 2, as in just look for generic Street Fighter vectors and see if you can combine then into a custom SF2 cpanel or sideart.

Here's a Ryu and Ken vector:
    www.retrovia.ie/dls/sfvector.rar

And I quickly resized that vector to this jpg as a sample(10731x15624 4.27MB):

Not sure what look you're going for but I came across the full artwork for this cab if you're interested.

Do you mean you have it printed out? or the files?

A mate works doing printing and can do them for me for a few quid if i can get the images together.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

sorry images are blocked on boards in work so i didnt know you had a pic embedded there!

I found that one earlier, to be honest im not mad on it.. its a but too flashy..

edit: do you have the individual characters or just the full side art? thanks

The files, I think I got them from arcadecontrols.com a while back but I don't have the link to credit the guy who made them. They're photoshop .psd files so not vectors but the guy got them printed out and they look quite sharp. Most of them do appear to have been created from a vector based source though.

    433MB for the full set.

I wouldnt mind taking a look at them if get a chance to put them somewhere, i might be able to mess around with them. Im not mad on the blue but i might be able to do something with the characters heads. thanks a lot!

Yeah, the layers are all intact in the .psd files and he has layers for all the characters, logos, backgrounds etc. He also has a layer done up for the blue colour so you can easily change or delete it which is handy.

I'll sort out a link a bit later for ya, either the original or I'll re-upload them to my server.

Dunno if you'd care but that SF artwork is HDR, it'd never have appeared in an arcade.

    Just sayin'

    What does "HDR" stand for?

Yeah but with a bit of work and some layer adjustments he might be able to use it or parts of it. It is a bit garish as it is alright.

In photography it's High Dynamic Range and I think that's what he means here.

yeh i messed around with it a bit, but still doesnt do anything for me. I think im just going to stick with the originals, get them printed up again fresh.

I was looking at it earlier, even though the art is a bit mad on the cab, there is something about those originals that just look better than any of those user created ones i think.

Steve has all the originals posted here, so if i get them done again and the control panel one printed up (which isnt on the cab at the minute) i think it will look fine. ill just fill in some bits missing in the wood and paint them black.

Sorry, forgot I wasn't in the fighting game forum- it means HD remix, the version of Street Fighter 2 released in 2008/9 (I forget exactly). The art is nice, it's just completely inauthentic, if that's what you're looking for. It was only created a few years ago.

I more meant that if you want something that appeared in the old days... well, by definition, there was nothing like that :)

Cheers. I was thinking along the lines of a SF version but "Hyper Deadly Revision" was all I could think of. :o

If you come across any let me know and I'll add it to the website so others can get it as well.
