Microsoft Security Essentials

My years subscription with Norton 360 is up and I am considering switching to Microsoft Security Essentials (because it is free and seems alright at first glance).
So I wonder if I have to completely uninstall Norton 360 before I switch to Microsoft Security Essentials or if Microsoft Security Essentials will do this for me (reliably) as it installs itself?

Will I have to go into the registry myself or should Norton be able to uninstall itself without leaving anything behind of importance?

You could use the uninstaller that it creates when its installed. you will find it in Add/Remove programs, or maybe in the start-menu.

After that you can use this to completely remove it:
