Stolen in the middle of the night 09/02/12 Terenure Area

    Black BMW 520d Estate 2007 - 07 D 41095

Scratched bumper heavily front and back and on wheel arch at rear passenger door.

Very professional - cut out window pane in front window so the alarm wouldn't go off. Took laptop and wife's purse.

Don't think they ventured upstairs - everyone slept through it.

Keys were on hall table - large curtain across front door so they couldn't use the fishing rod trick.

Any help or tips and will everyone be on the look out.

    Thanks.

hope all is ok and not to shaken. Terrible thing to happen. Will keep eyes peeled

Was the window double glazed or single glazed? Did they actually cut the glass or simply lift the pane out? Sorry for the questions, I am just trying to figure out how to prevent this happening to me.

I will keep my eyes peeled, don't see too many 5 series estates around so it would stand out to me.

They remove the plastic stripping keeping the window pane in the window.

Once you remove the plastic the window simply pulls back. More modern windows I think are fully sealed.

Just had the glazers out - he says they are experts at this.

They pry the aluminium slips and the window comes out very handy.

Gutted because I heard nothing but to be honest I don't know if I'd have been a hero because these maniacs would kill or maim you in a heartbeat.

I've called eflow, Dublin port and Dublin airport and most of the major shopping centres.

    Anything else I could do?

Yeah, it's awful. Just looking at my window now, and it seems like a manufactures fault. I just can't understand why they would fully seal the window on the inside as opposed to sealing it on the outside ?

Hopefully you will get the car back, I take it that it was fully insured?

Hard to say what they would have done, I say ran off into the night. Although you want to be off your rocker to go chasing after them.

Hopefully you get the car and goods back.

Sound like a professional crew, so most likely need the car for a heist of some sort. Not the kind of people you want to be tackling in the middle of the night, they are there for the vehicle not a fisticuffs.

    Sorry to hear OP.

When you are in a deep sleep (usually around 3 or 4 am) its pretty hard to hear anything.

Both my brothers were builders and one was staying at the other's house one night a few years ago and both vans were broken into. Back windows smashed and doors forced open and both cleaned out. Some seriously heavy stuff in them so it wasn't a two minute job but both brothers heard nothing.

Even I felt sick after hearing it so I can imagine how you feel, hopefully you get the car etc. back ok but don't hold your breath.

Try calling the other long term car parks at Dublin Airport and maybe some of the big parking companies like ParkRite and QPark. Hope you get it back in one piece.

Horrible thing to happen! it sounds like the car might have been watched or stolen for something planned like a robbery etc. Nothing you could have done. If thats the case I'd imagine its on false plates. Other than the damage is there any window stickers on it?? Is there any CCTV around you? Whenever i see this kind of thing on boards I always put the reg in my phone incase I see the car on my travels.

Sorry to hear that hope you get it back, The window's beaded like that are crazy and half the country has them im so surprised their only copping on now.

As for the car being stolen with the keys and them being prepared, from what ive heard of this is most of the time they will keep it parked in a carpark somewhere for later use, they will have changed the plates so it might be an idea to post a few pics if you have any.

Just in case they would be tryin to leave the country, Dont forget about Dún Laoghaire, Rosslare, Belfast. But unfortunatley there's little doubt they would change the plates.

on the positive side, ive had two friends that have had their cars stolen in Dublin, Both to be found seperatley in City center multistory car parks. Parked perfectly legally just waiting to be picked up!!

No stickers on it...3 kids seats in the back and more sh1t in the boot than a little - scooters, jumpers, coats etc.
Was thinking of changing anyway unfortunately not this way!!

Post on BMW-driver.net too. Particularly if its advertised for sale somewhere, there'd be a good chance one of those lads might spot it.

Just a bump in case anyone is out cruising today.

Wife said that rear passenger window is covered in child's stickers from a magazine the little one got the other day.

Would be grateful if everyone kept their eyes peeled.

    Thanks lads.

Just in relation to the windows being beaded externally. They are a terrible idea when it comes to security however I believe they were originally made this way for the purposes of kieeped driving rain out as the sealed upstand is on the inside so anythig that go past the seals still wont come in.
Fortunately, they now seem to have a suitable design that keeps the rain out while being beaded internally.
Also, you dont need to be an expert to get he glass out, They are scarily easy to remove.
Hope the car turns up anyway.

I know its a bit late, but you can get this security tape to put inside window before window pane goes back in, this sticks to the window like ****e to a blanket...You have to break the glass to get it out then....Sorry to hear your troubles....

I take it the car doesn't have a GPS tracking device fitted? An acquaintance of mine had an 11-D Golf GTI stolen a few weeks back and that's how they found it. It was parked over in Crumlin on the street and the cops just scoped it out for a while before picking it up.

What device did he use? Was there a monthly charge? Sounds great if it was cheap

You know, I think that the device came with the car....? Didn't ask the person in question...however, I saw this device linked to in another thread in this forum:

Really? I'd get much more satisfaction from getting it back after they wrapped it around a tree and they paralysed themselves.

But maybe I'm just slightly sadistic. :)

No use if your car gets stolen, but if you have a laptop it's worth installing Prey on it. If it gets stolen and accesses the internet (without being wiped) you can get reports of IP addresses used, and the option to wipe everything on it. It can even grab photos of the person using it if the laptop has a built in webcam.

Prey is free and is open source - which means the code can be checked to make sure it's not doing anything naughty like keeping track of your web history the way Google does.

Blanchardstown SC. That's where My mam and dads cars were found the day after the same thing happened to us a few years back. Get in touch with the shopping centre ask them to keep and eye out and go out there yourself and walk around the car parks.

I did that leejo - called all the major centres and left details...

The prey thing sounds good for the laptop alright...must get it installed if I ever get mine back or a new one.
