My sister wants me to look at one she is thinking of buying this evening. Its 2003 car but the older shape, as far as I know the are a good car and as it will be a second car for them it wont be expected to do more than 50 miles a week.
Are ther any known problems with these cars and what should I look out for apart from the basic stuff ?
    Thanks for any advice.

Cv joints aren't that good on them. I can't think of anything else that went wrong on the 2 my other half had.

Watch for a knackered clutch, given the demographic

Rust, yes Rust! Check the front crossmember that the rad sits on and the sills, check the sills carefully.

I agree but I would go a bit further to say that based on my own experience of Micras and Almeras of that era, I wouldn't buy one of them at all.

If you are seriously considering it, the front member is one main area for rust but also the sills, wheel arches, and boot area.

Thanks for the replies all were after she bought the car though :)
She did not buy the one I went to look at on Friday because it was a two door and as ye have pointed out the front crossmember was rotten, it was in very good condition apart from that.
He had a 4 door 2002 at the back of his yard that he had not tidied or warmed up and it had 4 or 5 small scratches and dents, the throttle pedal sticks a bit too and it needed 4 new tyres.
She made a deal for that one, he sorts out all of the above apart from the dents and puts it through the NCT (it should get a two year ticket).
So thats the story dont ask me how much :o but they seem to hold there value no matter where you look. I soppose low tax and petrol economy is every Irish mans top priority.
I hope its lucky for her now I felt under much more pressure than if it were me I was buying for.
