    Hi,
Can't afford to pay car tax at moment so not using car. Using the wifes car for getting around when need to. Not working at moment so walking and bicycle get me everywhere i need.

Do I need to fill out some sort of form to say I'm not using the car or what the procedure? Insurance isn't up till May but I'll prob keep it as I think if I cancel it I will lose my no-claims bonus - is that right?

No, just make sure its parked on private property ie. in your garden as you can still get fined for non display and no tax if the car is parked on a public road.

when you return to using the car, you can fill in an RF100A form and get it signed in local garda station and then re-tax it from the month you start using it again.

As above for the tax. Yes, If you cancel insurance you'll loose this years NCB. Another option may be to suspend your insurance, where you arrange with your company to return the disc and certificate, and they suspend it until you want to go back on the road.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

When I was off the road for a bit (broke the elbow on the black ice) I got my insurance to turn off full comp, and switch on "fire and theft" only. I got money back at the end of the year.
