Put a deposit on a car last week (scenic) but the car is unavailable so they offered me a demo of a higher spec instead for imediate delivery and a difference of 3K. Looking at the list price its a good deal, but any caveats about getting a demo model? Or should i get the 2K deposit back and look elsewhere?

    Thanks
    WBB

    Is demo a '12 or '11?

    I bet it's 2011.

I would take demo car over rental car. My friend bough ford fiesta zetec-s 09' ex demo and he is happy as pig in **** so far for 3 years.

Nothing wrong with demo cars, you you get them for good price. Those are Ussually have better specs too and not too high millage. Just make sure it's not one of those demos with 100k miles on it. We seem a few of those on boards.ie, it was working out that it was on demo runs 100miles per day each day per week for a year...

OP- I know your aim was to buy a new car, but if you are open to the idea of buying an older demo model have you considered buying an almost new second-hand car? You could pick up a 1/2 y/o Scenic with low mileage and still under manufacturer warranty for a greater saving than 3k off list price...

As for demo cars- they are generally in good condition. They should have been looked after well in-house and gently driven. Bear in mind though that they will be 1/2 years into their manufacturers warranty, and also have 5k+ on the clock. Often the price dealers knock off for them doesn't quite stack up when you factor that in.

It's a car, not a condom. You'll have no issues with a demo, they keep them up to scratch because it's what they show customers. But tell them you're not paying the 3k extra.

When my father changed his car regularly he always bought a demo. He got a good spec'd car at a reduced rate and never had any problems.
