hey, i'm in the middle of a yr out from college due to having my 3rd baby. i'm heading back into 3rd yr of a nursing degree, and i was receiving both the grant and btea. i qualified for maternity benefit (due to being able to work part time while on btea) this ended in november and i'm now currently on jobseekers allowance which is due to end in 7 weeks. i'm afraid that if i obtain work from now till september that it will affect me qualifying for btea. i will have to be accessed for jobseekers benefit (which i don't think i'll qualify for as hubby earns €530 per week).
on student finance.ie it does state that if u are in receipt of both (grant and btea) and take a yr out that ur still entitled to both-for btea it says if u meet the terms of the scheme

    any advise is greatly accepted

You may have to be re-assessed for the grant this year and it all depends on whether your income and your hubby's is under the limit of income. The BTEA is a tricky one and its best to ask Social Welfare whether you will be able to continue on this payment. Having a break in social welfare may be a problem.
If you do get the BTEA re-instated, you would be able to hold on to BTEA and the grant as you come under the 2009 grant scheme provided the income is under the limit.
