Must admit Sunday's Hennessy is a terrible, terrible race. Follows in the long line of weak Irish staying Grade 1 chases

Hopefully the rest of the card makes up for it. Looking forward to seeing Last Instalment again, he's really lit up this season for me. Can't remember a staying novice jumping as well as this horse. I'd nearly fancy him if he had been entered in the Hennessy FFS

I backed Quel Esprit for the gold cup a few weeks back at nice prices around average 50s on the exchanges.

So hopefully he bolts up and i can lay off. Im hoping if he wins nicely i can get off around 12s.

I can't remember a worse renewal of the Hennessy. It really is an appalling race for what is supposed to be our version of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. I'm surprised that there aren't any English challengers, considering that our 3 mile chasers are rubbish. Even an average English chaser would probably be good enough to win it.
I'm thinking of having a few quid on Bostons Angel in the hope that Jessica Harrington's horses have been in good form recently and the first-time cheekpieces might make a difference but I'm far from confident about him.

Money coming for Asaid, John Fergusons horse, his first overseas trip as trainer??

As noted on this forum, he's been doing very well, and particularly successfull on his horses that are backed off the boards.

Unloaded on Last Instalment at evens.

Another exhibition round of jumping apart from fiddling the 2nd last slightly. Was a bit worried after that with horses with a bit more speed queuing up behind but he put in another smart leap at the last and put the race to bed

A seriously exciting prospect, the RSA will surely suit him down to the ground (no pun intended, ground permitting). I think if there's a gold cup horse among the exciting bunch of Gigginstown novice chasers its this fella

I know Quel Esprit has had his jumping issues, but wow, he has really got his act together. Very impressed with his smooth jumping. I wouldnt view a few lengths defeat of Roberto Goldback as Gold Cup form particularly but he's a lively outsider

might has well have eating my money :D.

While Quel Esprit wasn't for me at the price he did that well

As someone else said Roberto Goldback and Treacle in 2nd and 3rd doesn't scream Gold Cup form

Still he could only beat what's in front of him and even if Cheltenham is a bridge too far you have the Guinness Gold Cup at Punchestown to look forward to

Won well really looking at the ratings only, jumped most fences really well, wouldnt seem to be a gold cup horse but this years gold cup is lacking a super star at their peak too so you never know, could run into a place.

Was really impressed by Last Instalment today. Jumped brilliantly and stayed on well to the line. 8/1 with Ladbrokes looks very tempting for the Sun Alliance, unless they think he's going to swerve it for the Jewson, as they've also got First Lieutenant for the RSA.

Sir Des Champs aswell who Mullins thinks will go for the RSA.

I won't back him for the RSA until it's NRNB time but Last Instalment looks a serious, serious horse to me. His jumping is unreal.

Fenton said after that the RSA was the plan as long as it's safe ground & I think he'd have every chance there.

He is quoted as saying that he wouldn't want it any quicker than that and if it was he may not go. It will probably be quicker than that on the Wednesday but I would think they will have to take their chance with him.

Who does Russell ride in the RSA (assuming First L & Last I both travel)

I can see him struggling to desert a festival winner and he did choose First L at Xmas, a decision which stunned me

For me First L doesn't jump anywhere near well enough & Last I destroyed him at Xmas when First L was well backed (I backed Last I at 5/2 the night before, still don't know how I didn't top up on course at 3/1)

Tony Martins horse is the best of the Gigginstown bunch imo. And think the RSA would be more suitable than the Arkle although since he hacked up in the Drinmore he has twice tried him at 2 miles. I dont get it.

Didn't Russell pick First Lieutenant over Bog Warriorr too in the Drinmore. I thought after Christmas he said he wouldn't make the same mistake a third time. Personally, I wouldn't fancy Bog Warrior jumping around Cheltenham. He's a bit too iffy for me. Last Instalment's jumping alone should see him bang there in the RSA at the top of the hill. FL's jumping has been very in an out and hard to know if its aptitude or the ground. He seems a much better horse on better ground.

The one thing I took out of Leopardstown was the confirmation of how good Tony Martin really is.Im waiting for the day to have a bet at Cheltenham because among alot of unpredicabilities the ground will be a major factor. If the ground gets heavy then Queto de la roque is a big player in the Gold Cup.I have tipped Berties Dream but he also needs at least soft in the going[have taken a chance and backed him at 40/1 but might not run if ground is not to his liking].Harringtons horse is a hugh player if the ground is fast for champion hurdle but no chance if soft.Another major factor concerning anti post is the form of the trainer.Hendersons horses at the moment are very hit and miss,Hobbs has said he was not stopped by the bad weather and his horses missed no work unlike Alan King who has been very badly effected.MC Cain trains on a beach,Pipes rate for the season is less than 15%.A trainer who was badly hit by a virus but now comming into form is Charlie Longsden , so his horses are worth following even at big odds.
