A friend of mine has a 01 ford fiesta 1.25 zetec and it is forever blowing dipped head bulbs. I know as I have to replace them. Another one tomorrow. what could be the reason? is driving with lights on during day a possibility?

Its a bad earth (or ground if you prefer) one of the contacts in the cct is corroded or loose.

How often do they blow? And yeah driving around in day light will shorten there lives. Another thing who ever puts in the bulbs do they maul the sh!t out of the glass part of the bulb with there sticking/dirty hands? That won't help! The glass part should never be touched. And don't get sh!t halfrauds bulbs, get a reputable make of bulbs.

Chaep bulbs will go a lot.
Had Lucas bulbs in my CMax and they would blow every few weeks.
Got the Halfords extra bright ones a bit over a year ago and they haven't gone since, can't see a thing wrong with them and every now and then there is a two for one offer.
Did the same to her MX5 last year, haven't gone wrong also.
I normally give out about "Halfrauds", but their bulbs seem to be ok.
Also, check out that the headlamp unit seals up properly, the seals are in good nick and there's not cracks/condensation in them. If yes to any of the above, bin the light.
And check for corroded contacts, melted connectors (usually goes together)

You have a bad earth somewhere in the car. Soon enough you might have a Christmas tree effect where all the lights come on when the brakes are pressed. Start looking at the tail lights, that's where mine went :)

Are the bulbs coming out looking scorched? If they are try replacing them while wearing gloves.

90's Renaults where terrible for that, had a Megane and must have replaced the rear light clusters 5 times, only for them to go again.
Renault knew they where sh*te, but instead of re designing them, just kept on selling the ones that would go again in six months.
Never once seen it on any 98-onwards Ford.
