Just listening to him on Jo Whiley TV show on Sky Arts, not bad, kind of Anthony Johnson vibe, Irish background, he talked about getting a fiddle from a relative over here, anyone else rate him?

Edit: Bit of a Billy Mackenzie of the Associates sound too.

Yes I discovered him about a year ago. I love how he takes old folksy stuff and puts his own style on it. I'm in a choir that sings 'Idumea' - his version is great to compare with ours.

Its a good mix of stuff from electro to folk alright.

He's been around for years, retired and came back. Has some great songs and a few crap ones too. Worth catching live too, odd but frantic gigs.

Really liked his Wind In the Wires album from 2005. Bought The Magic Position in 2007 but wasn't overly impressed with it and never bothered with the last couple. Were they any good?

I really enjoyed his last on, Lupercalia. More uptempo-kind-of poppy sounds!!

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Borderline Festival, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Nine Inch Nails

He's a peculiar fish, but I like him.

I think Bachelor was his only 'bad' album, and it wasn't as poor as it was simply disappointing and self-congratulatory, like his positioning himself as some form of martyr.

Lupercalia is something of return to standard of the original trilogy of albums. Mind, I'm surprised he's getting mainstream attention once again, I thought after the Magic Position it was a matter of days 'til he occupied a Kate Bush-esque place in pop-music cannon, but Florence Welch (who does a fine live duet of the Bachelor, actually) seems to have cornered that market.
His new EP, Brumalia is absolutely delicious. Go listen.

Veteran live-act too, rarely will you hear of him doing a lackluster show.

He's about to start a new album (in May I believe) with producer Tom Fuller who did the last one.

If you like him you might like another Fuller production 'David's Lyre' which I love.
