I'm putting in a new kitchen and have called to three places for prices so far. Prices include fitting but no appliances

    1. Nolan Kitchens, Clondalkin.
    Price €9000

    2. IDK (Ideal Kitchens), Long Mile Road.
    Price €7500

    3. Kube, Sandyford.
    Price €???

Anybody got any advice on the three companies or recommend another one.

    Cheers.

i paid €7,000 in the boom. Would have thought you can get a lot cheaper now. certainly if you are willing to look outside Dublin.

They have kitchen fitters that fit allright.

I got my own kitchen fitter/carpenter though (a friend of a friend).

Is it In House that just give you a list of fitters that they can recommend rather than having their own lads

As far as I know, they have their own fitters, and naturally (like any kitchen place) then can recommend independent carpenters/kitchen fitters too.

I just had this carpenter chap lined up,as he had done some work in my house before,so I decided to get him to fit the kitchen for me.

He did a few little exra neat tricks when instaling the kitchen too,so I was and am very happy, with how it all turned out.:)

We got our kitchen in Ikea... :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,371 ✭✭✭john_cappa

For that kind of money get a bespoke kitchen made. A carpenter friend of mine made one last year two years ago for me. 6500 or so. A big enough kitchen aswell.

I've had IKEA and in-house kitchens in the past. The In-house kitchen was definitely better quality but you pay more for it. Our IKEA kitchen costs €1800 excluding appliances and fitting compared to €7000 in KUBE. Although KUBE one was fabulous and way better quality.

When we got our kitchen at In-house they didn't have their own fitters. Instead they had a list of tradespeople. That might have changed though.

The benefit of going with a kitchen company with it's own fitters is the one point of responsibility. If anything goes wrong you not facing a 'it's not my fault it's their fault' senario.

hunting a kitchen myself at the moment. Best prices so far have been Cash & carry kitchens and Homebase. going to check Inhouse and B&Q this week hopefully. What kind of counter top are you after?

Was just looking for a laminate one nothing overly fancy, saw an acrylic one in nolans which was between laminate and stone.

Quote from QK Living was €7300 and the best of the designs too

Remember if you go with Ikea you are stuck with there door sizes for the life of the kitchen:(

Carpenter is right here, and that could be a very important thing,in years to come.

was impressed with QK living today, when I called in a few days ago and spoke with the sales lady outlining what i wanted she just kept nodding her head as i pointed things out but took nothing down apart from the available space. So I called back today expecting stuff to be missing or all over the place and BOOM the best design Iv seen from the 5 places Iv called to. Everything was exactly where I wanted it. Don't know how she got it so perfect the OH was well impressed. Still a good wack of money for a kitchen though.

I have found that until you find the exact layout you want it is tricky to compare prices. If the layout you got today is exactly what you want you should take it or email it to the other companies an say this is what I'm looking for, how much can you do it for?

the layouts in all the places iv gone to are pretty similar but QK had EVERYTHING we wanted and still came in with the best price, Kube were a disaster they left out a load of stuff we wanted because they didnt want to put us off with having an initial high price (i dont know did they want to try trick us with added extras or something afterwards:confused:)

Did you go to In House yet??

They have branches around Dublin,Long Mile Road and Santry are the 2 biggest branches. Both have very good display kitchens and fittngs.

Tierny Kitchens in Balbriggan also have a large showroom and are good too.

Went into In House twice and couldn't get served, both times I spent 10 minutes walking around and nobody came near me, the second time the fella behind the counter just kept making phone calls which may have been urgent but the 5 minute delay on the phone could have gained him a sale, no interest going back a third time

Tierny Kitchens have come up a few times on the site but havnt had a chance to go out to them

In House are like a builders providers...in that they deal with so many trades people and builders and trade accounts. Also other customers on the phone too, with various questions and enquiries about all sorts of things.

You sometimes have to go to the counter and speak up.

No biggie for me,as thats me,I dont wait for someone to come to me,I just go over and get straight to the point.

    Works for me.:)

We got prices from Cash and Carry, Kube and Eco kitchens.

Cash and carry was surprisingly nearly as expensive as the other 2 but the service (and selection of kitchens) was brutal, 1980's style drawing it out on a piece of graph paper! and salespeople trying to bs you.

Kube have a fabulous range of modern style kitchens, great service and weren't too bad pricewise for what we were getting. But they did seem to be fishing for what we wanted to spend and then the price kept going up.

Eco have the exact same kitchens as Kube but were substantially cheaper. I was going to fit it myself but they are able to fit it for a good price because of the difference in VAT between supply only and supply and fit. They are lovely people to deal with, and best of all...... You can go out and see your new kitchen in 3D on a huge projector! Ok I know, so it's a cheap trick, but it's a great trick.

We looked at Ikea, B and Q, and In-House, but didn't like any of them so didn't get prices.

In the end we went back to Kube with the price from Eco and they beat it, and then Eco matched that, so we decided to go with them because they'd come up with the lower original price, if that makes sense. Final order going in this morning :D

In House for the win here.

Thats my personal opinion anyway, after playing 5 different companies off each other.
Play the game and haggle hard and you will get a very good deal with some extras thrown in for free.:)

Yup all installed, very happy with it. Took 1 guy an evening and a day. Neat work. I used to be a snagger and I've installed a few kitchens myself so I'd be quite fussy, but couldn't fault the installation. So far we're still getting used to the new layout, but it puts a smile on my face to walk into the room now.

Floor and splashback are due to be installed this week so I'll post some pics next week .

Great, What did you end up going for in the end? Doors, worktop etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭littleredspot

White gloss slab doors, dark steel handles and a worktop called slate reproduction which I would describe as looking like old corroded steel (and which was a b!tch to find a co-ordinating floor for) The worktop was one of the reasons we went with them, it's very unusual. Just finishing painting, looking forward to having everything finished.

Im not sure if this is the right place to seek this information. I need better storage in the units and I was going to install wire baskets/drawers in some of the units....only problem I dont know where I can buy them in Ireland.
can anyone suggest kitchen suppliers who I could get them in ? If I could buy them on line it would be much better ...

i do intend updating my kitchen this year, new design and all, but i have no notion of paying 7000 for a kitchen, the one i have cost me a fraction of that money, but now after twenty yrs and lots of wear and tear i need a new one, sometimes we see companies selling kitchens at half price, i will look that way first

+ 1 for recommendations on InHouse, I have dealt with them dozens of times (santry) and have always offered a very good service. They do both cheap and expensive with all the bells and whistles you can imagine.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 15,858 ✭✭✭✭paddy147

6 meters in length is the main length of the kitchen, and then the part along the window is 3.2 meters.

Price wize...well lets just say that was a very very good deal indeed.

Cash is King.....especially when its in your hand and its waving in front of the man on the trade counter;):D.

I am just about to go with D1 Kitchens they have been very good in terms of price and assistance with design and selction, we priced a few places including appliances and they came out on top.

    anyone ever used them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 RachWatch

We got a new kitchen just before Christmas. Priced In-house; Kube; Cash&Carry and EcoKitchens (Santry). Actually, when you compared like with like Kube (and EcoKitchens - both the same manufacturer) weren't that much dearer than the others.

However, as the price was creeping up and up - we had a rethink and we decided to re-use the carcasses from our old kitchen. We found a kitchen fitter who ended up sourcing the kitchen with In-House - and we saved about €3k by reusing the carcasses. We have a lovely new, high gloss kitchen for a third of the price :)

we had been quoted approx €8/€9k from InHouse / Kube / Eco - but ended up paying around €6k as we kept our carcasses.

i am thinking of replacing mine, but the prices i see here are over my head, i would not even consider it, is there such thing as ex display kitchens on the market, something for no more than two thousand, cheaper if possible, as i would haveto replace flooring also

Cash N Cary Kitchen,In House and Tierneys tends to sell off ex-display kitchens on a regular basis.:)

Also most kitchen/bedroom wardrobe shops tend to change their stock over around November of each year, for the next seasons new styles.

You will pick up an ex-display kitchen rather easily at this time of the year.

Ikea are very reasonably priced - we were just concerned that their unit sizes weren't the standard size. But I have a friend in the US who has had an Ikea kitchen for years and is very happy with it.

I'd say you'll struggle to get a whole kitchen for less then two thousand to be honest unless you go second hand or something along these lines.

I fitted a 1000mm sink unit, a 600mm cupboard unit and a 600mm drawer unit with counter top across the length of it in a bedsit. All of that came to just over €600 with all the cheapest parts and fittings, no end gables or anything fancy.

The same guy got me to fit a second hand kitchen that was a full kitchen he picked up on gumtree for €300. He requested measurements of all the units first to see if it would all fit and work out. Spent a day cleaning and painting the doors and drawer fronts. I think only one unit didn't fit in with that plan as there was no room left for it.

Try second hand, you'd be really shocked at what you can pick up or even just purchase new doors, drawer fronts and counter tops. The amount of people that NEED a new kitchen because "Bob" down the road got one. keep the old carcases and in most cases you save over 50% off the bill.

My recommendations are to go to The Paneling center and get a good kitchen/cabinet maker or fitter. The paneling center is as far as I can see part of in-house kitchens. I got my kitchen built last year and could not have been happier with it. I went to many many kitchen companies to compare prices. These included In-house, Kube, Nolan kitchens, Homebase, B&Q, Arena Kitchens, Bushell intieriors, cash ans carry kitchens and Kitcken world. I think this gave me a pretty good all round view of the different places. In the end not one was able to match the price (or even come near to the price) that we got. That is not to say that they wont in someone else case. If you have no idea what you want, then one of these shops is probably a must for you but after a year of trawling through every kitchen magazine I could find, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted.
Also their show rooms are really great to get an idea of what the kitchens are really like (compared to a photo).
If anyone is interested in having a look at my end result I will happily post some pics. Be warned though that the person you get to fit/install the kitchen will probably be the thing that has the most baring on your end result.
