Something that is seen every X number of years?

My sister recently told me of someone who encountered something very sinister, dressed in top hat and coat. This person got an awful shock. Now, seemingly, someone else also saw that same entity about 30 years ago, around the same area, but did not want to scare the other person, and since, we have heard that this entity has been spotted before, but that there seems to be a 30 year gap between sightings. I've never heard of time gaps this big, anyone know of similar cases?

I think you often see flurrys of sighting for these things. Someone says they saw something, sparking others to claim they did too, then interest dies down for a few years before someone else hears the old stories and claims that they saw it; and repeat.

Kind of like the way the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were huge in the early 90s, then everyone lost interest, and now a new generation has discovered them and they're popular again. Lots of things go through cycles like that;e.g. Zombie movies, mini skirts, and Johnny Cash.

Hmm.. perhaps, it seems this entity is pretty good at the old timing, every 30 years............ perhaps it is just that, co-incidence. The 30 year sightings seem to span 90 years at this stage.

But is it 30 years? Or just that someone thinks it is? Memory can be inaccurate. Also, how do you know this 'thing' hasnt been seen in the meantime (whatever it is) and just not mentioned? Lots of unknowns here.

I don't know Oryx, the only sightings of it that I know about are these 3. Yes, there are lots of unknowns, isn't that what paranormal is all about....

Exactly. my point would be that you need to find out more about this. Ask around. Find out if there are myths or stories associated with the place. Older folk can be a mine of information. For instance my mother recently told me of a light which was known to travel across a particular field, in a particular way every time someone in her home area died. This was in her fathers time when she was a child. It was commonly known about and taken as a matter of fact.

I've seen a man dressed in a hat and coat for years, first time I seen him I was about 10 or so, he was miles away and the hat looked like a top hat. Over the years I have seen him sporadically and the closer he gets the clearer he looks, last time I seen him it was on a road in Kildare, standing in the middle of the road, I had to break so as not to hit him. This time the hat looked more like a trilby hat.

Maybe the person has only recounted the one time they seen this entity.When I tell people about my experience I don't usually go into the details of the many occurrences (usually for fear of being locked up!!!) Could be the same thing with your friend? I think the "appear every x number of years" thing is a concept that works well for movies, but I've never heard of stories from regular folks about specific time gaps.

Sambuka that would freak me out. How long have you been seeing it? How many times? Is he looking at you, or doing something else? Any ideas what you are seeing or why?

I don't find him scary really; more just a bit odd!! The first time I was about 10, I was cycling with some friends, it was dark and I seen him standing under a street light at the end of the road, at first I thought it was a shadow, I pointed it out to my friend and she seen it too. Her older brother (bout 13) couldn't see it so he cycled down, I could see him cycling around the guy but he couldn't see anything. ( I was a good distance back and it was dark, so logically I know all the reasons it may not be anything)

After that the next time I remember clearly seeing him was when I moved out of home into a bedsit. I came home from shopping and seen his face on the wall of my apartment, I took a pic on my ancient camera phone (really bad quality) His face was really clear, only it was about 5ft high. There is a window shinning directly on the wall so I went over and moved the curtains but the image stayed the same, even as I walked in front of it. (again I know the theories and ideas that discount these things, I keep an open mind)

After moving from that flat I seen him on the road in Kildare, It was night again, a winding road, it really was as if he just appeared out of no where. I hit the brakes and pulled into the side of the road but he was gone again. No idea what that was all about.

They are the instances that I remember most clearly. I have had other creepy things happen that don't involved him.

I spoke with a psychic at at fair about it, I just said that I think I am haunted (in a joking way) and she said he has something to tell me, that he kept his distance when I was younger and more scared of him but now he is getting closer as he wants to talk!! :eek: She reckoned that I should acknowledge him each night and in the morning, just say hello. I done that for a few days but I started to feel like a right twat so stopped (I was imagining her at home laughing at me talking to myself:p )

She also said that if I looked at the newspapers from 1890-1910 ish that I would see his picture. I did go and check out the papers from that time in the archives but so far no luck. I did find something a little strange, the bedsit that I seen him on the wall, in 1911 census there was a kid there with nearly the same name as myself. My full name is his first and second name.... say Joe Bloggs is my name his name is Joe Bloggs Fox. And his dad was called William, when I was younger I named my ghost Billy Bob (don't ask me why!!) bit of a coincidence.

There are lots of reasons that can account for these things but when they happen to you, all together it something worth noting. (also you can see why I don't tell too many people, I sound like a crazy person!! I've been trying to track the family from the house and I even asked the genealogist about how to do it, had na awkward moment when she asked was it family and I explained no complete strangers to me but i think one may be haunting me:D:p:o well i left out the haunting bit but did have to explain that they weren't my family. )
