Hi, has anyone any idea of how to open a 2001 laguna in which the batt is dead? i know you can take the key out of the card and this is suppose to open the passenger door, but it doesn't go in any more than 5or 6mm. Is there a special key needed?
In some mercs there is a place under the car to charge the battery if it goes dead, is there anything like this?

    Very bad fault with renault!!
    opinions welcome..

The passenger door lock has a plastic cover over it, you inset the key in the slot in the cover first and prise it off to expose the lock. Did you do this.

If the key won't go into the lock then i'd suggest trying to ease it in with WD40.

I had thought of trying to take the cover off, but afraid to break something, but I shall try that when I get home, its a balls of design feature to be honest. Hope it works... cheers

The cover will just pop off and expose the actual lock underneath. Should be ok if you then try the key in this lock. Although I guess there is a chance it could be seized if it hasn't been used in many years.

As a matter of interest , if you hadnt taken the cover off, where were you sticking the key? Or do you mean you just pulled it back a bit.

think its a great design. Much better than having a stupid keyhole that never used exposed in the door

theres a small hole, or insertion point for the key on the underside of the cover (i now presume this is for prising it off :) ) i was trying the key in there. for your average joe soap its not the best though! my brother went to the renault garage and those working there hadn't a clue, told him he had the wrong key.
The car was lying up at the house for a bit so we're all trying our luck at it to maybe try and sell it! they're not worth too much now though...

Car companies cleverly hide all this information away somewhere most owner choose to never look, the owners manual. :)

They were either idiots or they assumed he was telling them the cover was off and the ley wasnt turning the lock.

Yeah the place where you putting the key (theres a small hole, or insertion point for the key on the underside of the cover) you use to proser the cover off, then use the key to open the door.

Definitely wont get much for it, had one a coupla yrs back, biggest piece of crap, way way to expensive to maintain !!
