How many people use UPC phone with SKY?

I have UPC broadband and phone which is also and unlisted number.

I have a dial prefix entered into the boxs and everything works fine.
I can even browse my account and order Box Office.

I was told by Sky that UPC in Dublin works just fine with SKY.

I see this question asked a good bit on these boards and people think the UPC line will not work but yet I know it works just fine.

Can others who are using the UPC line confirm the same?

Yes it works fine for me but I see a lot of people here who say it does not work.

Confirmed: it does work! I have my sky connected to the telephone point in the UPC modem & it does work! Why would anyone think it doesn't! It's a phone line end-of!

It's a VoIP based phone service, which is technically very different to a phone line. Saying that, upc do seem to have the system tweaked well so it works pretty flawlessly with sky.

It's more that a trained Sky installer knows how to setup your box to dial home on a UPC line if you let them know when you get Sky installed. UPC and the description "flawless" rarely go together in my experience.

yep, I have UPC phone and broadband. I run a phone line from the UPC Modem split it so one line goes into my normal phone. The second line is split again and I run this into 2 sky boxes in 2 rooms, and it all works fine.

From my perspective, regardless on the technology underpinning it, the phone socket in the UPC modem is (for me) behaving the same way that the Eircom socket behaved before I switched to UPC.

It's not just bog-standard VoIP over any old internet service. It's a carrier-grade VoIP system carried over a cable network with some kind of guaranteed QoS (Quality of Service) provision in the network. It connects back to dedicated soft-switches in the UPC network itself and does not go over the internet.

It will behave exactly like an eircom line.

You could compare UPC's internal phone protocols to an modern digital office phone system, or to the VoIP eircom or other telcos use to carry traffic across their own NGN networks!

Thinking of switching to Sky but have been told numerous times that a UPC landline won't work if you want multiroom (which we do) and that we'll need an Eircom line (which we don't want to do).

Yeah, this works for me as well. I have multi-room, and it all works just fine.
