DELL battery dead - help!

Okay, Studio 1555 ac adapter started flaking out and finally refused to stop charging the battery (declaring it to not be a DELL charger ) so the battery naturally ran out of juice and I removed it from the machine. Just a short time ago, however, I obtained a new adapter for the laptop.

Now - to my horror - the laptop declares that the battery has suffered a catastrophic flaw and needs to be replaced!

Tried to update the BIOS as a means to get the system to recognise the battery again - but the updater says it requires a functioning battery in the machine in order to run!

I checked out the price of new batteries on the DELL website. €140.:mad:

    Help please!

I'm in a similar boat, dell xps 170 little over a year old, for the last few months it's not charged past 67% ish, now it tells me the battery is dead, removing the cable means it turns off :(

€140 is a joke for a replacement battery, any advice on where to go?

(also the last Dell piece I will ever buy, this is a joke)

I've bought a few leads from amazon on the chape for my Dell xps in the past. One of the leads didn't last six months but the other one worked fine. Haven't bought a battery from it yet. It seems to be a luck of the draw situation to be honest.

Anybody any idea how to update the BIOS without a battery? Doing this apparently occasionally cures adapter/battery woes. However, Nekro Man, your battery may actually be dead (when my last one ACTUALLY died it had about a max charge of about 15%). 65% is still okay, however, so it might be just your Dell fecking you around (like it is with me!)

I've dealt with this guy (Rob) in the past and he sells genuine Dell parts at very good prices. I got his name from another thread on here, in case anyone thinks I have any relationship to the seller.
