Tax refund recieved

    Hi

I was wondering if I could get clarification from someone here as I tried Google and couldn't get an answer.

As I was made redundant towards the end of last year I applied for tax back. Today I received a refund for the universal social charge. I assume this is separate from a PAYE refund. At least I hope so as it was a pretty miniscule amount.

    Thanks

It is separate. Did you get a redundancy lump sum on which you were looking for top slicing relief? Or were you just looking for a review of last year to see if a refund was due? If it was top slicing relief, that can take a while. If it was just a review for last year, why not check your PAYE anytime account to see if a P21 balancing statement has issued to you.

You may not be due any Paye refund. It depends on exactly when you were let go and how your employer treated your tax and tax credits

Did you fill in a p50 form or do it online and did you ask for your USC charges to be checked ?

Went to the tax office and filled in a p50. I never asked for USC to be checked and was surprised to receive a refund.

How long ago did you do that ? When i sent my p50 off i got a letter back stating the amount i was getting back and another form to send in every 8 weeks if i was still unemployed. That was mid way through the year though.
If you are registered online i'd request a p21 balancing statement for last year and also put in any health expenses that you might have incurred.
