Are you entitled to claim jobseekers allowance when doing a tefl training course?

Not if it's full-time. You have to be "available for and genuinely seeking work". But if it was part-time or distance you might be?

If its part-time and won't interfere with your Jobseeking efforts, and if you go to them beforehand, they will usually approve it under the Part-time Education Option.

Can you do a part-time Masters under that scheme?

Its not a scheme as such, you keep your Jobseekers payment. You still have to be looking for full-time work. They are just certifying that they don't believe that your course is interfering with your ability to look for full-time work.

Also if it's in the evenings you can still claim it.

I think the Back to education scheme is only for the long term unemployed (>1.5 years).

Best bet if it is a daytime course is to say nothing, you won't be found out.

You can't advise someone to do this. Its not you who will face the consequences if they are found out! Payments are regularly stopped when they discover that someone has been engaged in an education course without clearing with the department first.
