ok an 2005 nissan pathfinder 2.5dci with auto gearbox that had water leak into it, the gearbox was removed from vehicle and not sure how much it would cost to recondition it but secondhand one costs approx €1000,
    whats the best option?

some even mentioned you could put a 6 speed manual gearbox in it as can get the gearbox for €500.. would need pedals etc

Anyone any ideas on how to proceed

I highly doubt it would be easy to fix a manual into it as modern 4x4's have a load of sensors and all that crap, you'd also need a fly wheel, clutch, pedals, new center console. Problem with getting a used auto box is you don't really know what you are getting, it could well have the same problems as your own and only last a couple 1000 km's,but then again you could get lucky and it may last. Personally i would get your own one rebuilt, then you'll have warranty
