Springboard ?

Hi all i'm a 19 yr old male who is currently recieving job seekers benefit 6 months now I'm also doing a FAS cours in ECDL (just 2 weeks left ). I left school with my Leaving Cert in 2010 and then went on to DKIT to study Computing Level 7. I failed a few exams and left after the summer exams. I wanted to repeat the year but couldn't afford the fees etc.

In the local paper I read about this "springboard" which enables people to do a higher diploma in computing it got me thinking and I applied for it there.

Do you think i'l have a chance for getting it after failing a similar course just last year?

Do I get to keep my job seekers allowance whilst doing the springboard course?

That course requires you already hold a degree so it wouldn't be suitable for you.

However, there are other courses on the Springboard programme that may be more suitable - have a look on their website: http://www.bluebrick.ie/springboard

ah I only copped that on there myself anyway with that springboard initiative would I still be entitled to dole of some sort ?

Yes, you would.

Registration as part of the Part-Time Education Option (PTEO) which is overseen by the Department of Social Protection will enable eligible Springboard participants in receipt of the Jobseekers Allowance or Jobseekers Benefit to retain their payment. Following an offer of a Springboard place, it is the responsibility of individual participants to register for the PTEO with their local Social Protection office.http://www.bluebrick.ie/springboard/Help_FAQ.aspx

I worked part time for around 6 months 2 years ago.

There are many options under which you could hold onto a payment while in education. Usually, the local VEC http://louthvec.ie/youth-service.html would have a counsellor who would be helpful in sorting through the options.

Hi there

I don't think there's interviews for every course. You just have to submit any previous education certs and proof of ID and they will accept or reject you.

Just wondering can you go for another springboard course?
I completed an I.T course in DCU under the scheme but would like to progress and do a Hdip. I've applied for a few courses and can't see anywhere on the site that you can't do another course if you've already completed one.

could anyone enlighten me on the matter?

Also, there seems to be a new BTEA scheme for people who want to do an ICT conversion course.
I presume I can't avail of this option as I've already gotten the BTEA years ago?

I did a two year higher certificate springboard course, completed that in May and have now applied and have been accepted for the 3rd year degree starting in September. I'd try email someone at Springboard to be sure but it shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't bother asking SW, most don't seem to know what springboard even is
