Noticed some significant upward movement with AIB SP, anyone know why? Recent daily gains of 25% cannot be ignored?

My money is on BoI but another undervalued horse might be worth consideration.;)

AIB is now worth about twice what it was in the peak of 2007, pretty astonishing when you also consider it has sold off the bulk of the profitable parts of its business.

Considering the tiny percentage (0.00075% by my calculation) of aib shares traded on wednesday, is it wise to extrapolate their worth from sp.

'Worth' was the wrong word to use in my post, i should have said valued.

Wouldnt touch aib with a barge pole, Can see a major correction on cards for SP, Bkir now largest and best postioned irish bank set to benifit from economic recovery.

Yes - was a good increase alright.

In at 0.075 and out at approx 0.12 so a good week or two. won't do that again, nerves in bits :)

But yes - not sure why - even the pink sheet traded US aib - aibyy - has done the same, so really not sure.

possibly on the coat tails of BOI.

I wonder could a foreign bank be interested in taking over aib, IF such news was to break SP would probabaly increase further however i would be wary of getting Locked in by investing in this shell of a bank.

You would put your money in to this share without knowing all the facts?

Whatever about BKIR. I cannot understand how AIB is worth more than .01c. Shows what I know :p

Seems Gov are trying to keep this shell afloat long enough to possibly see it sold off Now we have a better idea, Govn to guarantee 75% of all new loans to SMEs to help develope 200,000 new jobs

Yes and all loans will be managed through AIB, thus reason for recent SP gains,

Still wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

Really not sure which way to hop with the banks.
AIB shares are rock bottom nearly and Bank of Ireland isn't too far off.
So the question rises if they will be around to reap benefits. As it is Bank of Ireland seems to be kept as a pillar bank so might be better to invest there but again not sure.

Anyone have any other information regarding them?

AIB + 14% on Fri, but + 50% since end Jan. For anyone looking to make quick money, AIB certainly looks like a good Bed and Breakfast Penny share play at the mo, until the music stops.

The potential gains are there and cannot be ignored?

Can someone please explain to me how AIB has a market cap of €62bn?

That's more than double its valuation during the peak of the Celtic Tiger years.

It's a penny share valued at 12c! Avoid at all costs.

No. Purely a traders share now. Anyone buying into as an investment at these prices is insane imo.

Up to 14c which is bizarre! Surely a put option at this price is free money!

I think the ban on shorting the banks is still in play, and i'd imagine the put option is pretty expensive at this stage.

However it is now the 5th biggest company in europe, methinks its going plonk.
