I know. The whole idea is hilarious. I just wanted to start conversation. :D

Why move anywhrere? If you buy the car in UK and you can register there on your name then just lock it up for a year and then move to Ireland.
If I remember correctly you had to own car only 6 months prior your move to Ireland and I think it had to be registered in the country on your name where you move from to Ireland. But not sure. It was 7 years ago since I had that problem.

You need proof that you are using it. As long as you can register it in Hungary then you will be fine. As for a camper, isn't the VRT tiny anyway?

You'd have to register it in Hungary and then the time on those plates counts when you import it to Ireland.

If you never imported it into Hungary you technically never had ownership of it.

In the UK it'll be listed as exported.

Now if you had an address in the UK and an Address in Hungary that might be a way of doing it.

AFAIK the 6 months goes from the Date of Transfer on the papers in the Country where you were resident.

Yea, ive a freind who bought an RS4 in the UK and uses it in france, paying tax and insurance in the uk, but no longer has an address there....would he be able to change to irish plates without paying vrt if he moves back home? I know you have to prove you lived abroad, just wondering if driving using uk plates, but not living abroad outside of the UK will cause a problem....

    That's very interesing question.
Someone just need to look through all the VRT regulations to find the answer.
