They view the animal as an accessory, a toy, a doll, and not as a person however loosely that term applies.

I have it on good authority (Mr. Tibbs) that cats hate being dressed up.

That's why keys go missing, ornaments get knocked over, and fabrics get ripped to shreds.

They are projecting human qualities on to their animal. Which they may have to extent ie pets can be affectionate and loyal just like some humans.
But there is no need to go dressing your pet in frilly bloody pink stuff.
    Rediculous.

It's minus 15 C outside and I'm just about to take my dog (a spaniel/border collie mix) out for his evening walk - an hour or so in parks and along the Baltic shoreline. I have a winter coat for him, but he hates it, because he loves to roll in the snow and especially on bare ice. Therefore I put the coat on only when it is colder than minus 20, and I'm not sure he needs it even then.:)

It depends on the dog, really. Some lack warm undercoats and it is better to put a coat on them in very cold weather, but many do not need clothes at all - ever.:D

The same with rain. I have a raincoat (Aquascutum) for my dog, but put it on him only when it is raining cats and dogs (no pun intended). Otherwise he just has a good shake and I dry him with his own towel. It does wonders for a dog's fur.

I really believe that in countries like the UK and Ireland, overdressing dogs is actually a form of animal cruelty. Most of them need protection from the elements only in the kind of weather that comes for a few weeks every year and they suffer from overheating when their owners put clothes on them.

That said - pink tutus and dresses? No!
Jackets of various kinds (PVC rain coat!)
