Wife starting part time in NI. Best tax options

My wife is starting employment in NI, as a frontier worker, i.e living in the south and commuting.

She will need to do a self assesment each year to revenue here.

However, this is her first job since we got married, and I am wondering if anyone could offer an opinion on how best to arrange our tax credits. I am a PAYE worker in the south.

I am assuming revenue have us as married as I claimed a refund in respect of our year of marriage.

Irish Income Tax (I have the 2011 edition on my desk) devotes 4 closely printed pages to this topic. It notes that the liabilities can vary according to which of two spouses is the assessable spouse, and it also notes that it may sometimes be beneficial if a married couple opt for single assessment as opposed to either joint assessment or separate assessment.

You really need to take professional advice rather than rely on someone posting here.
