exemtption from sw while claiming illness benefit

Iv been turned down for an exemption to work another year on my CE scheme. I'm going to appeal but was wondering if I'm wasting my time.
Has anyone gone down this route and been successful in their appeal ?

Were you given any reasons why you were refused ?

The letter states
" the medical assessor is of the opinion that the rehabilitative potential of your exemption has been exhausted therefore you application for an exemption has been refused"

I think its another was of getting rid of the double payments.

An appeal looks like the way to go,back it up with a letter from your GP,ect

how can you claim illness benefit and then work on ce scheme.

You can claim illness benefit, invalidity benefit and widows pension while doing a CE scheme.

Though this had changed in the budget for new participants.

I know you can but doesnt that defeat the purpose of been ill, doesnt been on illness benefit mean you cant work but isnt the ce scheme doing some form of work, you can be sure thats somenting the sw will be looking into next.

You can engage in part time work or training in the nature of rehabilitation or occupational therapy to enable participant to return to full time employment.

If you get an exemption you can work but I think they are tightening up on the rules for exemptions.

2nd year and subsequent Illness Benefit and Invalidity Pension exemptions were difficult enough to get as it was. They are going to be near impossible to get with the new changes. Disability Allowance recipients will be in the same boat.

It was always a fine line to tread, as your claim depended on you not being able to work. Their policy was usually to give first year exemptions automatically, but that's going to change now too.

The whole move on CE is towards those on Jobseekers payments, who come off the live register when they go onto CE.

Engage in the review/appeal, and you can continue to work on the scheme until it is dealt with. But prepare yourself for a likely refusal.

Thanks for that mrsbyrne. I'll give them a ring tomorrow.

I sent in my letter for an appeal Monday I'll see what happens with that, I dont know how long it takes for a reply, I hope its not too long.
