Replacing Chainrings

As a result of lazyness on my part, I'm now faced with having to replace the large chainring on my road bike. (The chain has stretched and is hopping off the large ring, and it's looking like there's a good bit of wear on the chainring).

The current chain ring is a FSA Vero compact. The large chainring is 50T and a BCD of 110.

Is it possible to simply swap in any chainring that has the same tooth count and BCD or do I have to get a matching FSA one?

At the moment, it's almost cheaper to buy a whole new chainset rather than replace the chainring.

    Any advice welcome.

    Robert

In my experience any chainring will do.

I put upped a compact 110 BCD chainset from 50/34 to 53/39 with another brand chainrings without any problems.

Have also swapped out a worn 53T FSA chainring for a generic one, again without any issues.

EDIT: The replacement chainring will obviously have to have the same bolt pattern.
