    Hi folks,

In need of some assistance here if you could all be so kind.

The story is, we have our head office in Dublin, and a remote office in Cork. We have a 100mb leased line connection in Dublin and a regular Eircom DSL connection in Cork.

The kit we currently have available to use is the following:

    2 x Netgear FWG114P Prosafe 802.11g Wireless Firewall/Print server
2 x Netgear DGFV338 Prosafe Wireless ADSL Modem VPN Firewall Router
    2 x Netgear DG834G v3 54 mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Router

Basically we want our employees to be able to plug in their laptop, obtain an IP address that will then allow them to see all our network as they would should they be located in our Dublin head office, and visa versa.

Many thanks in advance for any help provided.

    Rgds

    Paul.

I've used OpenVPN to allow several remote locations to connect to the centre and to each other. Users in all locations can then see whatever folders are shared and for which they have been give permission.

It is pretty straight forward to set up and as its software based it also enables employees to connect from other locations which don't have the necessary hardware e.g. home or a clients office.

The traffic is encrypted and connection is established via exchange of a server generated digital certificate.

If say a laptop is 'lost' the certificate can be revoked from the server and can no longer be used.

I have no experience of setting up a Netgear hardware VPN but there should be details in the manual or on the Netgear site.

What you need is site-to-site and VPN client policies !
All info on 'how to' create VPN tunnel(s) ,peers and client software it can be found here:

You'll need static IP addresses in both sites (highly recommended) and you may find out that in Cork (subject to traffic shape & usage) you are going to look for a second, dedicated line for VPN! Configure Cork LAN do get on www directly through local Eircom AND not through your Dublin office !

As the HQ / Main Server is in Dublin, then just get site-to-site D2C and all clients connecting to Dublin.

Don't allow saving passwords on VPN software, let them type in every time they establish a connection.

Depensing on what application(s) you are using,go for a remote terminal server/remote gateway server !

For email access, use the OWA over HTTPS,as per SBS/Exchange.
    For files,VPN works better.
For applications, depending by type of apps !

Run a health check on those laptops before plugging in VPN !

If you need somebody to do it for you,PM me contact details,i can give you more information.

    Good luck...
