2 of my favourite tournaments on tour so will have a 6 bets on this week, 1 in Dubai and 5 in the US.

    Pebble Beach:

Dustin Johnson @ 20/1 - ah memories.. good and bad :o Tbh, this is entirely based on his love of Pebble Beach more than his form. Sunday at the US Open aside! :pac:
    Byrce Molder@ 28/1
    Brendan Steele @ 80/1
John Huh @ 80/1 - a name who's been in the top 15 in the last couple of weeks.
David Love @ 125/1 - so nearly did the business for me here in the US Open like Johnson, had to include him for my outsider bet.

Really considered just having a sizeable bet on Tiger I must admit.

    Dubai:

Alavaro Quiros @ 22/1 - the guy loves Dubai!

My first bets of the year for me so low stakes.

    AT&t

    Mahan
    Sabbatani
Harris English(going be my new Scott Stallings:D)

    Dubai

    Kaymer
    A Hansen
    Dyson

all e/w except Kaymer. Good Luck all.

Branden Grace looks outstanding value @66/1 in Dubai.

Won twice last month and is more than double the price of the likes of Anders Hansen for example.

    Also, Won the pro-am today.

Also like Spencer Levin for 1st rnd lead @35 in the AT&T. (For those with Betfair accounts. bookies have no market at time of writing)

One of the few form players playing his first rnd on the Monterrey course which is much the easiest on the rotation. Also averaging 65.5 in four first rounds this season.(tour leader)

    Dubai:
Rory @ 4/1. Ridiculously skinny price but was always going to back him here regardless.
    Couple e/w on F Molinari @ 33/1 and Dubuisson @ 100/1

    Pebble Beach:
    Watney @ 22/1
    Steele @ 80/1
    McGirt @ 125/1

    ....all e/w

Rory McIlroy 5/1 (ridiculously skinny price? you must be joking :pac:) & Zach Johnson 40/1

    At&t: Aarron Baddeley @66/1 e/w top 6.
Just added Brenden Todd @225/1,Q school winner from last year obviously not afraid to go low, good friend of Tiger who has been quitely impressive this year, unknown course form but has played a practice round with Tiger which can only be helpfull re course knowledge.

Will do someone in running in Dubai probably
    Added josh teater @150/1

Have D. Johnson done at 20/1 , great opening round moves onto the tougher spyglass course tomorrow so i expect him to drop back a little.

Have Chris Wood In Dubai @ 80/1 he's -1 and John Mallinger in the states @90/1 after a 1st round of -2

Strange preview, they are just tips. No info whatsoever regarding the course or event.

Plus, the grammer is awful *dessert swing* :pac:

Surprised Barry has this dross posted on there. Extremely amateurish to say the least.

    Comments noted and appreciated.

The article was actually rushed, had to write it on my phone. It's also unpaid...I get paid for the horse racing articles that I write, but I wanted to start doing some more golf ones.

They're just tips because that's what they're supposed to be...it is a betting site after all. I didn't use the title "weekend preview". There are two blatant, and silly mistakes in there, but to say the grammar is "awful", is going a bit far. There are other writers on there who write previews about the event etc.

    And who's Barry?!

Barry is one of the top boys at betfair Ireland. Anyone who uses the word dessert in place of desert needs a good bollocking eh ;)

I'm aware they have other golf previews on their other betting content site but whilst my comment reads harsh, it was actually guidance related too.

Betting preview readers aren't interested in the actual tips, in fact, the whole point of the betting piece is purely for a seo purpose so you could tip up myself, heavyballs and premierstone for the event and the seo specialists wouldn't blink an eye :pac:

Most punters already have an inkling who they fancy for an event but a lot simply don't have the time to research the course facts and current player stats. These are two important additions to any betting article along with a few words on the event. People will take you more seriously if you portray your knowledge of the sport within your article.

Regarding the actual betting tips, post your fancies but don't spend too much time writing about them once you've decided.

Oh, and make sure you get paid next time. Never write for free :)

That never write for free thing is advice I would never give to someone. A lot of "writers" nowadays simply do not write enough. I was falling into that category. You fall into the category of typical keyboard warrior just being nasty to a stranger for absolutely no reason. It's fairly obvious to people who write for a living that this was a case of poor sub-editing as opposed to a writer with "awful grammar".

I get paid well enough by Betfair for other work that I do for them and I wrote this tipping feature for 2 reasons. 1. So it would force me to take more time with my own golfing selections and 2. To actually start to write more again.

If the selections starting winning, then the features would no doubt get more hits I.e. people would accept that someone else is doing the hard work work for them. That "hard work" is simply watching a lot of golf and formulating opinions about certain players.

I agree what makes a good preview of a golf event, but this was never going to be anything like that. In fact, a lot of those articles just read like some lazy sap just copied and pasted course info from the PGA site.

Again, I applaud your knowledge and opinions, but in future I think you should take the route that you took with your second post instead of just straight up abusing someone and the work they're doing. The world will soon be a better place then.

By the way, I wrote this reply on an iPhone too...not ideal, but I've had to do quite a lot of travelling this week and haven't been near a desktop or laptop.

Anyway, Kaymer and Bjorn are going quite well but Molder needs to try harder...

Okay. I took your advice on-board and thought about the route I should take with this post (for all of a split second) and come to the conclusion that your above post makes as much sense as your golf tipping article does.

It's pointless continuing our war-of-words on this thread for the amusement of others, so therefore..

I apologise for beefing you up the wrong way initially. You threw your link up there (which is generally frowned upon on this section) so accept that others will pick holes in it.

you tend to do this a fair bit tbh,

anyway back to the golf, looking good for Dustin as he has the easiest course tomorrow along with my outsider Brendon Todd @200/1
My other outsider Josh Teater not too far off either so i'm happy enough

i don't want to go too deep into this but if you look at say the top 20 after an event and look at their past course form, recent form etc, etc, etc you'll find picking out possible winners is harder that just looking at stats.

Yes it helps but not that much,do you play golf to a decent standard yourself? If you do you'll understand the amount of variables involved in you playing well, that is your whole game in top shape most importantly putting.
A pro golfer has a good idea how they're hitting it during practice but we as punters don't really have a clue.
I'm not saying just stick a pin in it but personally i just put my picks up which i do reseach but just don't have the time to do big write ups.
Hope this makes sense as i've had a fair few

Happy with the e/w on Baddeley but Todd started with a bogey and never really recovered.

No,as my local gives e/w 6 places from the start I always pick a few pre tourney.I find it hard not having a bet pre tourney ,maybe I have a gambling problem?????

Happy enough with my e/w on johnson, always good to finish in profit, great performance by Mickleson!

haha, I know what you're saying and we'll always have the small pre tournament bet..but I've found that I seem to be very good at knowing what players will choke on the sunday and who is primed to pick up the pieces. I have a great profit record from saturday bets than I do from thursday/Wednesday ones

I find value hard to get once it starts and rarely have I backed in play on Golf.

    But each to their own.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Some would argue there's not much value to be had in pre-tournament betting.

as far as consistant profit making i would agree with you,a few bets for the interest is fine but for consistant profit making i think backing/laying is the only way to go in golf betting
