We must learn now from Greece

FG and Labour, contrary to all pre-election posturing and promises, now embrace the rushed bailout deal signed by the previous Govt.

Is Greece indirectly doing us a favour, in the sense that the harder they negotiate, the more it would become acceptable and almost expected of Ireland to hint of a renegotiation at some stage of the current bailout, particularly if it appears that we will need a second bailout?

Should we not be showing some more initiative, or for want of another word, "balls" in this matter?

At the very least, the Greek electorate have the small consolation that there is a fight being fought on their behalf by their coalition government to lessen the impact of the terms and conditions of future funds.

Well I have to give the Greek government a bit of credit for standing up to Shark & Merk.
They have a pair unlike our boys.
But they are facing up to, ten years of economic decline or one bullet between the eyes now and start from scratch. More than likely out of the euro.
We should consider the same thing but first we have to get out of our denial phase.
We will need a second bail out, Germany maybe pissed off by then and not give us any loans to pay back our existing loans.
Catch 22 for all of us I guess

How about we learn from Greece post-default when there is no money for social welfare and Public Services...?

That is simplistic and not sensible.

Who, in Greece, has the pair as you see it?

There is very little principled in the Greek situation. Having cooked the books for years to buy the votes of an implacable electorate Govt after Govt has reneged on deals the EU, in good faith, made with them.

Because there is an election in April all politicians are jockeying for votes and the electorate are doing their best to intimidate them to put off the evil day.

The perils of democracy in the cradle of democracy.

Personally I think they were best sent packing from the euro, before they bring down the whole structure.

Our guys are really more interested in letting Greece be the fall guy and seeing what scraps we can get from the table. Balls don't come into it.

If they do get a few they will come back and hail it as a major victory, one they had nothing to do with, negotiation skills aren't part of their skill set.

I think Greece are a little bonkers, they really need to make some effort, while I don't think we should learn anything from them, our guys could learn to negotiate a little and be more representative of their nations wishes
