    Hi guys,

I am planning to take my fiance away for his 30th birthday. I want it to be a special hotel where you can do a lot of things around as well, not just sitting in the hotel room all day. I had a look for a while now and the only thing I could find so far is Ashford Castle. It is lovely out there but then again not much to do. We could be doing a Golf course but I am not into golf to be honest. I know it is all about him that weekend but I am not going to do something I dont like either. :D
Has anyone any suggestion what hotel in Ireland is great for a couple weekend away?

    Help is much appreciated.

Stayed in Bushmills Inn a few weeks ago. Really really nice. It's a real old world hotel, quite expensive but delicious food and good atmosphere. You have the Giant's Causeway 2 miles up the road, Carrick-a-rede nearby and then the whole of the Causeway coast to drive down. We drove the Causeway coast on our way to Dublin on the Sunday.

The hotel put on lots for people to do - afternoon tea on the Saturday and a movie in their private cinema were included.

I would definitely recommend it for a romantic weekend away. It was very romantic, cosy and yet not a bit boring.

It is a trek, not sure where you're coming from. Took us 3 hours from Dublin, but it's on great roads, and nearer than a lot of places in the Republic.

It cost us around €300 for the deal, but as we'd no sterling once we arrived we put everything on the card, so came to over €400 when we left. It was well well worth it though. It was for his birthday also, so I didn't want to be scrimping on a city deal. I wanted it to be more special than that!!

What kind of activities do ye want to do for the weekend, shopping or sightseeing, walking.

Westport is nice, few nice hotels and nice town. Or Galway, two hours drive, stay at the Radisson Hotel, G-Hotel both close to town centre.

I live in Sligo so I wouldnt want to spend 2 days in the Radisson in Sligo.:D
Giants Causeway would be too far for me. I think it is a 3 hours drive for me as well from Sligo. I was there only recently.

I think Co. Clare, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim and Galway are the counties I would drive to. So basically the whole north west really.

When it comes to activities I think I would want to go for nice walks. What does Westport have?

Do you know of any castle or high class hotels that look like castles in the northwest?
