Anyone know how to download from the Market store on an Xperia? My son has a phone for 2 days and I still can't download from Market. It keeps coming up with "download was unnsuccessful, please try again later".

I've searched numerous forums and yet nothing they suggest seems to work! Could this be an issue with the phone rather than the Android OS?

The only thing I haven't tried is completlely resetting / wiping the phone, but I don't want to do this if I can avoid it.

Just in case anyone else has this problem, Sony Ericsson replied with steps on how to resolve it. Basically I ended up having to reset the phone for the Market to work.

Recently Google have been updating a number of applications including the Android Market which we believe may be causing the issue. This does not appear to be an issue with your particular handset and may affect all Android users. To try and resolve the problem we would suggest you clear the data within the application.

If your handset is on Android 1.6 or 2.1, this can be performed by following the steps below:

    1. Open the Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Scroll down to Applications > Manage Applications
    4. Press the Action Key (button with four lines)
    5. Select Filter > All
    6. Scroll through the list to 'Market'
    7. Select Clear Data/Cache & Uninstall Updates (Not all will be highlighted)

If your handset is on Android 2.3 then this can be performed by following the below steps:

    1. Open the Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Scroll down to Applications > Manage Applications
    4. Tap the “All” tab
    5. Scroll through the list to 'Market'
    6. Select Clear Data/Cache & Uninstall Updates (Not all will be highlighted)

Once complete please go back into the Android Market and accept the terms and conditions. Then try again to download an application from the Market to your Sony Ericsson handset.

If the issues continue then you may need to use a Wi-Fi connection as this is a more secure connection. You can enable Wi-Fi by following the steps below:

    1. Open the Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Go into Wireless Controls/Wireless & Networks
    4. Enter Wi-Fi Settings > Tick Wi-Fi
    5. Select your router from the list provided

If all of the above does not allow you to download applications from the Android Market then we would suggest that you perform a full reset on your handset. Please follow the steps below to do this if you are on Android 1.6:

    1. Open the Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Scroll down to SD Card, USB Mass Storage & Phone Storage
    4. Select Factory Data Reset

If you are on Android 2.1 or 2.3 then this can be performed by following these steps:

    1. Open the Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Scroll down to Privacy
    4. Select Factory Data Reset

Please note any information which is saved on the phones internal memory will be deleted. We would therefore suggest any information on the phones internal memory is saved to the SIM Card, Memory Card or PC before completing this reset.

Once the reset has been performed, go back into the Android Market and setup your account again. However, please ensure when entering your Google account you do not include the '@gmail.com' or '@googlemail.com' as this is added automatically.

If after performing all of the above troubleshooting the issues persist then we would suggest that you raise the matter with Google. There is a customer report form available to fill in which will send your Email to Google. This is available from the following link:
