    Hi guys
Anyone know what happens about BTEA when I've finished the first year of my 4 year course in May 2012? Do I have to sign on again to JA and then apply again for BTEA for when I go back in September 2012? Anyone got experience of this?
    Cheers

Here is the relevant information from the welfares site

"BTEA participants who are progressing to the next year of their course or who are progressing from second level to third level approved undergraduate qualifications will have their BTEA reinstated from the commencement of the new academic year irrespective of whether they were in receipt of an unemployment payment for the summer period. All participants must supply written confirmation from school/college/institute that they have registered as a full-time day student for the new academic year. Participants are also required to notify the Department of cessation of participation on a course."

    The link is: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/bte_all.aspx#3.3

    I hope thats helpful.

As long as you remain on the course for which you are BTEA approved, you don't have to reapply for the duration. But, immediately the academic year finishes, and if you haven't secured work for the summer, you should go to the SW office and ask to switch back to JSA. It is usually a pretty seamless transition in that you won't be left with a gap between payments, though as the JSA is means tested and BTEA isn't, they will take your circumstances, into account and if you were on an age related JSA payment before starting BTEA, you will be returned to the appropriate age related payment for the summer. Check when at the SW if they are going to switch back to paying you through the PO while you are back on JSA. Then as the link from the other poster says, you go back to SW with evidence that you have registered for the next academic year and evidence that you are in attendance and the BTEA payment resumes.

    Hi people

Was thinking someone around here may have a morsel of information that might help me as regards to BTEA and my situation.

Small story short ive been working part time for the past two years. Ive been in college full time through this but its looking like i might not have the job for much longer along with a few others unfortunalety. Its pretty much my only form of income and its whats paying my fees etc.

What i wanted to know is seeing as i would be made redundant/let go does that mean i would be able to qualify for BTEA? I live with my dad who works on and off and in no way could take on that kinda of financial responsibility of my college fees. Or if i lose my job am i basically screwed...:o

you are a full time student, therefore have no entitlement to Jobseekers. You have to have an underlying entitlement to Jobseeker's to qualify for BTEA based on redundancy. Also you are not starting the first year of your course.

So basically id have to leave college, apply for job seekers benefit and then go back to college, or something like, obviously not as straight forward. Well lets just hope situations dont change.

Just food for thought though, is there anything out there to help people in similar positions? EG parents founding their children and losing their jobs etc.
