Ford Pinto engine question.

    One for the Ford boys. Probably a simple question to those in the know but how can you tell a 1.6 Pinto from a 2.0 outwardly? It seems to be a 205 block. Does that indictate 2 litre or are the 1600s the same?

    i.6 has 1.6 cast on the block, drivers side. 2.0 has 20 cast on it (from memory)

    what about this block then, im told its a 2 litre? it has both a 16 and 20 on it :)

    I presume the difference is in the stroke?

    I'm open to correction on this but.....

    The Ford Part number for an engine block always had "6015" in the number (the first few letters identified the engine series, 681M, 711M, 771M etc). The following two letters "AA" or "BA" identified the capacity, with the smaller capacity block being "AA" and the bigger one "BA".

    Given that, I'd say it's a 2.0 Pinto......

    Yep, that's a 1300 Crossflow alright as it's the same as mine.

    One other thing to think of is that Ford had a habit of putting the block series as a "T" number, as in "T 1" to "T 20" for the Mexico type Crossflow. Some of the "T"'s can be quite faint and the number quite proud. Maybe Ford just stopped stamping "T"'s on the block and just put the number down for the later Pintos.....

    Edit - The engine number is located in the same place as the block part number but at the other side for the crossflows. The engine number was the last few digits of the chassis number, so it's easy to see if the car still has it's original engine.....

    2.0 = 90.8 mm bore and 1.6 = 86.0 mm bore from memory.
