I dont know of anywhere specific but if you contact your local motor tax office or DOE test centre they will be able to point you to a weighbridge site..

I think it cost about 20 quid when I had mine done (in Kildare).

    Your local recycling/dump.

They weigh your car going in and weigh it going out. You pay by weight difference so it will cost you nothing if you got to dump some rubbish.

    Get a receipt!

Yeah. my local recycling center in Inagh has a weighbridge, going in was 1450kg and coming out my car was about 1340kg. (with me in it)
I was a bit insulted though when I got out on the way in and it went down by 100 kg, I only weigh 94!

Don't bother paying their ridiculous prices for using the weighbridge. Simply drive in when it's quite, park up on the weighbridge, go into the hut by the weighbridge asking how much it'll cost, you can usually see the weight on the screen behind the counter, then tell them that's too dear and walk out again:cool:

    €20 is ridiculous?

Absolutely. It costs them nothing assuming it's quite.

    NCT also lists the weight.

It's a little bit random what weight my car is every NCT time. Last time involved 2 retests, each test was carried out on a different lane, each time a very different reading. It ranged from 700kg to 820kg from memory. I know some of the testers are a bit stocky, but that's a massive difference. It's supposed to be in or around 720kg with an average sized driver.

If you want to know how heavy your car is, don't go by this. Plus you have to ask the tester how much he weighs :P

Come to think of it, each lane showed different brake imbalance (as in, the imbalance was on the opposite side) and ovality figures too. Who knows when the lanes were last calibrated. According to their own docs, they're calibrated daily

True enough. But my weight was bang on, assuming there was a man in it at the time. 1804kg unladen, NCT weighed it as 1884kg.

If your weighing an Octavia remember to take the 900kg of stuff out of the boot

Just get four weighing scales and put one under each wheel.

You could also attach a luggage weighing scales to a crane.

A 720kg car? What you driving? A Lotus Elise is well over 900kgs!
Also, fuel is roughly 1kg per litre, difference between and empty tank and a full one would be around 50kgs, then the tester's weight!!

Manufacturers weights are typically with a full tank of fuel. Surprisingly enough, a litre of petrol weighs a shade over 700g. :)

Is it Milk thats around 1kg per litre? Makes sense that petrol would be lighter... must be around 70% of the density of milk then! :)

    1L water = 1kg

Milk probably a little heavier than that.

A full tank of juice in mine is 20 kg (range is about 175 miles if I stick to motorways at 80 km/h, it sucks on long hauls). The tests were done back to back, with about 15 miles driving in between, tops. Manufacturer's quoted kerb weight is 630 kg ;)

Isn't an Aerial Atom around 630kgs? Is it a Caterham? Go on... spill!

Hope he's not in charge of anything requiring bang-on-age!

Edit.....Oh wait, it is bang on.

Edit Edit.....I work the coal face and am not in charge of anything requiring understanding or reason.
