    http://www.guideclinic.ie/sti-clinic for a discreet/straight experience.

http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_Service/Sexualhealth/Gay_Men's_Health_Service/STI_Clinics/ Gay Mens Health Project STI clinic Baggot Street.

Both provide screening free of charge, results usually take about a week although some are available in a couple of hours

You can also obviously get a test done with any GP (but this wouldn't be free of charge of course).

Unless the guy's cum (or pre-cum) came in contact with a mucous membrane on your person, such as your penis glans, eyes, anus or any open cut (including a blister in the mouth or newly flossed teeth, etc) then you're very unlikely in any danger.

I'd suggest you also get tested again in 3 - 6 months again, just to be sure.

It can take time for the body to produce enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect. This "window period" varies from person to person, but the average time it takes for a person to develop antibodies is 25 days. After three months, 97 percent of people who are infected with HIV will have enough antibodies to test positive. For this reason, if a person tests negative for HIV within the first three months after they may have been exposed, it's recommended that s/he gets a repeat test after three months have passed. Getting tested after three months helps decrease the likelihood of a false negative (i.e., a person who is HIV-positive but tests negative). A person who tests negative after three months is probably not infected.

He came on your groin? Unless you have open cuts there I can't see how you might have contracted HIV.

While its important to get tested periodically there's no need to panic every time you are in contact with a guy. If you didn't exchange bodily fluids I wouldn't worry about HIV

+1 to what floggg said. It doesn't sound like you've anything to worry about.

I get checked up once every six months, just to be certain. You could try the GUIDE Clinic at St. James's or the Gay Men's Health Centre.

I agree and that's more or less what I said!

Again, if he came on your groin, not inside you or near any open cuts it is probably impossible for you to have contracted HIV.

Your risk of other STDs are also rather low I would imagine.

You'll probably have to give contact details as you don't get results there and then - particularly for HIV and other tests where blood tests are necessary.

They won't go and tell your family or friends though - everything is confidential.

Even if a friend saw you going into the clinic, you don't have to tell them you were with a guy. Just say that you are going as a matter of good practice - as eveybody, straight or gay should.

I reiterate thorough - you can't contract HIV from just touching semen or getting it on your skin. Unless it enters your body through a noisily orifice or open cut you are fine.

There's definitely nothing to be embarrassed about going to get tested for STI's, I think it's more embarrassing if you don't. It should be just like going for an annual physical, or a checkup for your heart, cholesterol, what have you. So don't be embarassed, OP. You're being sensible.

You didn't have any symptoms because on the basis of the information given you didn't expose yourself to HIV or probably any other sti.

By all means get tested regularly but don't overdo it either - read around on sti's and then use common sense and protection where applicable!

Personally, I find the GMH Clinic at Baggot Street excellent - discreet, quick and very professional but many GPs also offer the service for between €50 and €100 - depending on the practice.

Keep in mind, most people are nervous, especially for their first time.

I actually tried the Baggot Street Clinic yesterday but got there late and was told to come back another time as the were full.

I think you need to be there early enough - around 5.30. They asked me was I showing any symptoms and where I was from before asking me to come back do I imagine if it was an urgent case or you had travelled a long way they could accommodate you.

It was my first time and I didn't actually find it all that embarrassing sitting in the waiting room. I knew I had nothin to be ashamed of and presumably everybody else was there for the same reason so they weren't going to judge.

If anyone is worried because they are not out, I would recommend the GUIDE Clinic at St. James's. It's free, the staff are lovely, and it is for straight and gay people. In fact, it's not just for sexual diseases so no one will know what you are there for.

You need to go there at one p.m. on Tuesday or Thursday to get your number. You'll be seen by a nurse then a doctor. Honestly, I've been there and no one looks twice at you. No one cares to be honest. Everyone's there for their own thing, and the place is quite busy. It's not like a waiting room where you're sitting around looking at one another. Bring a book to read while you wait. This is what to expect: http://www.guideclinic.ie/sti-clinic/what-to-expect

It's better to be tested than to worry. Even if you have to take the afternoon off work, it's worth it.

Also, an STI test itself is quick and only a small bit uncomfortable. There are some swabs (so wear clean boxers :D), a blood and urine test. Over in less than 3 minutes.

Noticed in the March GT there's an ad for a private STI clinic in Harold's Cross. Thought €120 was steep for a full screening given a GP would prob be cheaper. €60 for a basic consultatio.

If done in a GP its quite common to have bloods only.
